After doing some searching, i am suprised to have found that there is'nt any mention of hex size on top of the filter canister. I had though that it was a 32mm, but was still too small. I will try a strap wrench and pipe wrench if my first plan doesnt work.. For now, what is the correct socket size?

It should be 36mm

Make sure it's braced well or you risk breaking the supports...

You shouldn't have to be using a wrench to open the canister, the top doesn't need to be that tight.

agreed, i would never tighten it that much. I've put 250 miles on the car since purchase, and know that its been over due for an oil change.. Last goof ball must have way over torqued it.
