to go on stock pads to TWS should start passing the hat. The stock pads are toast. TWS was a riot, but now i have a slight grind once my brakes warm up and i apply them..... :nono

Really??

We've run multiple races there with stock brakes on our Sentra. I mean, there are only 2 heavy braking areas on that track.

Hmmm, I was on stock pads and rotors, and they are still fine. Thats weird.

They are right, TWS is not that hard on the brakes. But, E46 M3s are extremely fast and somewhat underbraked. Plus, my OBC was reading 104F while on the track.

I had PFC97s on, they were very good with two drivers in the slow 328Ci...

Al, I have the solution for you: stop using your brakes! My guess is that you were on them too much. On street tires, you should be able to get away with stock brakes.

At least I could. Maybe things are that much different in the E46 M3 world? Let's see, the car is 300lbs heavier, you are 100 lbs heavier than an normal person (;)), and you had an instructor, with a total vehicle weight of 3700+ lbs. That could have been the problem too, but you have been on your brakes too early and too long.

My instructor was really great, and is from austin..I think his name is Jefferson? They moved me from green to blue, and I think that is where the brakes got thrashed. I was able to run much faster in the blue group. I can't say i was on the brakes too much, but who knows. I guess it has something to do with the weight thing. When I dove down through turn one i was at 130ish mostly.. Oh well just get the hat passing...

Well, maybe it's time for some he-man pads for you, big guy!

Don't know Jefferson. What was he driving?

The E46M3 brakes were under-designed as a safety feature to help reduce the chances of you pulling the pin of your S54 grenade......

I kept telling you, slow in, fast out...you nubies always look at late braking to try to get faster.

I also tried to get them not to down shift so much, work on hitting their marks and being on power through the corners.

You never did stop those chicken lifts did you?

I'm just pulling your chain...

...in another year you'll be able to keep up with some of better E36 guys!

The E46 M3 is too fast and too FAT for the OEM pads.
In almost any track (unless it's a high sped oval :D ) you will fry the OEM pads. Real race/track pads will do it for you, but expect to be replacing OEM rotors every 7-8 track days.
I use PF97 and work great but they are hard on rotors and the dust sticks like hell to your wheels (Oven cleaner will take it out).
Porterfield's R4 are also good but they will not last you more than 5 sessions (at Watkins Glen that is)

Make sure you haven't run out of brake pad material and grinding metal on metal. Then, wait a few days to see if it is just pad deposits that are causing the grinding.

Unless your steering wheel shakes under braking, everything is fine. Just wait a few days for the deposits to wear off.

If your brakes were fading at the track, then it is time for some track pads.

The money shot...good picture.

The supplier is going to send me the solid OE 95 offset bushing to replace ithe failed at N.C. I'm going to send those(centered PowerFlex) back and he'll get them replaced under warrenty.

That what happens with >1G cornering and mad driving skillz...all kinds of schit starts breaking! :devillook

BTW, It was a pleasure meeting you a shooting the schit.

Kenzo, you bump your head or something? You seem to to have woken up this morning thinking you are Dave Scott.

Kenzo, i think i just over did the pads. Your advice was well received and used, trust me. I have no shaking, just a slight grinding sound. Iwill try to remove the wheels and check the material. The car only had 3500 miles on it, so i hope the pads are not gone

Maybe it was the heat? I just got off the phone with Eugene(he's concerned about the Pflex's) and his wife said it was 103 in College Station. I did see those temps on the OBC in the paddock but I remember seeing 98-99 once at speed. I may have not checked it in the heat of the day, around 3:00pm or so.

Yeah...I not quite above 1G but the skillz be mad! Once the Toyo's get to race depth I'll be sub-two when pushing it and I put 80% of the corners together correctly. 2:05's now just cruzing and 2:02 running 9/10th and I'm not down to shaved depth or banging it at redline.

You going backwards...get working on those kitchen passes before the new bambeno...then it's minivan time and Disney World.

;) ;)

my temp read in the 100's a few times, and at lunch time saturday my wife's truck read 103...

Unless they have changed their policies on the newer E46’s, when I bought my 2001 ///M Roadster the pads and rotors were full replacement items covered by BMW. I specifically asked that even if I wore out the brakes every few thousand miles would they replace them. They answered that they would.

If that is still the case, just take your car back to the dealer and get the brakes replaced!

Frayedy, let me explain what a vasectomy is ........ I wish I had gotten mine 25 years ago! That would have solved many problems that you will find out about, when it is too late!
