Ok guys i need some advice here for my next set of tires. I have the stock bmw sport rims size 205-60-15 I have the pilot sport xvt or whatever on my car now, they are doing pretty well and I liked them, but my buddy was saying that you cant beat the SO3s so can someone give me some reccomendations on the tires? and about tire size also, could i cram a differnt size tire on my rim? Thanks for the advice in advance

You would have to change the wheels and go with either 16" or 17".

If he did go to 17 which of the two would be better?

Ive had both:

Dry - about the same
Wet - S-03's win big time
Price - S-03's win by a bit

Plus, the S-03's aren't French ;)

SO-3 no questions. I went through two sets of MX's and Pilots. Neither really compares to the SO-3.

ah thanks for the reply, thought so, so i guess im out of luck so the next best thing in a 205- 60-15 would be a pilot? which necessarily isnt bad, just making sure i can get the best out there

You know:

195/60/15
215/55/15
225/50/15

These will also work for you.

As long as the circumference of the tire is about the same, you should be able to use wider tires without a problem. The tires really are not "larger", just wider. A 225/50/15 would work with no problems.

One draw back, wider tires do not work well in the snow if that is a concern.

there is no drawback with wear problems? so you should put the widest tire that you can on your car right? if snow isnt a problem? any other factors

Hmmm. My car came stock with 225/50ZR16's. 225/50ZR15's would be smaller in diameter.
Yu door sill sticker should give you the options of upsizing. My does (starts at 16 though). Be sure you're starting with the correct dameter before you make your choice.

have you considered the Khumo MXs? those were comparable to the Pilot sports at a fraction of the cost

I currently have the S-03s on my car. They are great. When compared to the Pilot Sports, I'd say they are about the same or a little better in the wet and dry conditions. They are also cheaper as well. Both are good, it just comes down to how much youn want to spend.

They are both very very good tires. Very likely the best available. I have Pilot Sport because it seems like the tread life is a bit longer on average. My last set went 26,000 miles. SO-3 is bit softer I believe.
