Well I was driving back from school today and about 30 miles away my car sputters and dies on me. Well I decide to have it towed to Doc's Bimmer Shop. Well he refused to work on my car because of the age of it and because it was modified. I need to find a BMW shop to have my car towed to tomorrow morning (the car is sitting at his shop, and he probably won't be too happy if it stays past noon). Are there any recommendations of shops around the Oxford area? It might be necessary to go to memphis if so I could use a shop recommendation.
Thanks,
Joe

You need to pull the codes on it its probably something really simple.
With all the mods you don't have a code reader???
Check the fuel pump first.

I did the stomp test all that there was was a knock sensor 2 code. I am currently about to get it towed to Alpine Autoworks in Memphis. It just kinda sucks that they won't be able to work on it until tomorrow. The good thing is that Geico is covering the tow from Oxford to Memphis.
Edit: I pulled spark plug one and up it on the shock tower and tried starting the car to see if there was spark and there wasn't.

Alpine guys are good I forgot about them...Been awhile since I have been around the Memphis crew...
I would bet its the pump or something really simple...
Good luck hope its okay!

I just called Memphis motorwerks and they are gonna try and fix it today. Thanks for the recommendation. I was talking to Mike McCoy on the side of the road yesterday and he was thinking it probably was the fuel pump or crank position sensor. Well I will find out hopefully in the next few hours what was wrong. My dad already told me I should sell the car, but he knows that to get me to sell the car is gonna take an act of god.

If I only had the money. I've talked to Mike about getting a kit, but it is pretty difficult to convince my parents that I need more toys on something I have already spent close to $30k on. When I graduate hopefully I will be able to retire it from its DD requirements and make it a full time track car. Unless I find a way to win the lotto or somehow win money at a casino.

Just got off the phone with Memphis Motorwerks and they said that there was something wrong with the EWS. This is kinda odd, but they said the GT1 was not communicating with the computer. So I guess I am stuck here for another night.

They may have checked this already..But have them pull the ECU and check to see if the chip is seated in the ecu....I had it happen to a buddies M3..Dam thing would run then die and run die...then it just died.... My BMW tech buddy pulled the ECU apart and pushed the chip back in the dam thing has run fine ever since...
Just a thought..may be something else....

They said they were gonna swap the ecu and see if it worked, but I'll ask them tomorrow.

yep last night they got it going. They said the ECU was not responding to the GT1 so I had Strictly German overnight it. They then found out that the woodruff key sheared off and it stripped where it went (not really sure how) so they had to put a new one in but it advanced the timing 3 or so degrees. It ran kinda rough until the fuel trims reset, but I got home around 2 am last night. Thanks for the recommendation on the shop they did a great job and also cleaned the hell out of the car (I have never seen the engine bay paint as white it has always been a yellow).
