View Full Version : Rear bumper install
LUV4my5 06-18-2008, 08:06 PM So... Some idiot decides to use my driveway as a reversing point and runs into the back of my car?!?!? Broke the bracket on the passenger side. Question is, are the three sliding areas the only points at which the bumper is attached? Screws anywhere? I already ordered the bracket, just wasn't sure if I was missing something.
sfgearhead 06-18-2008, 08:17 PM My bumper is also loose on the pass side and held on by wire (stupid PO). I thought I might need a whole new bumper, but are you saying there is a bracket I can replace?

If you slide the bumper cover completely off, you'll see brackets on either side behind the wheels. The cover slides over them. also, if you look under the rear of the car, you'll see where the bottom of the cover slides onto a bracket next to the muffler...
525fourthew1n 06-18-2008, 08:41 PM Haha whoa, guys, you're both in luck.
So, like the front bumper, the whole thing is held on by the 4 bolts on the aluminum bumper core. The bumper slides onto 2 plastic brackets on the sides.
1) remove the bumper trim
2) unbolt the 4 bolts that hold the bumper to the bumper shocks (2 per side)
3) unscrew the large plastic screw/plug things from the SIDES of the bumper (behind where the side markers would be, I believe)
4) then slide the whole thing out, keeping it parallel to the ground until its all off.
Don't forget to obviously remove the side markers so you don't rip the wires out.
Oh, and SFGearHead, mine has a similar ailment. I tried to fix it before I knew how the bumper was held on, so theres a bolt holding mine in place for now, until I order a new bracket.
Hope all this helps, Good luck!

Doesn't sound too hard, I"ll have to pull off the side trim and take a look. Thanks for the description!
What's the official procedure for removing that trim? Does it slide backwards once you remove the light?
I'm notorious for breaking little plastic clips by forcing them the wrong way!

e34freak1993 06-19-2008, 01:45 AM ok so i was sittin gout in my grage about 3 hrs ago and idid it! It really isnt hard just stick a flathead screw driver and start it off then slowly keep moving down the line until it all just comes off after a while! you only need to take off the rear straight one to BTW! ANy Q's PM me. And yeah just pull straight back and it kinda just falls off!
sfgearhead 06-22-2008, 01:18 AM i was out replacing a rear wheel today and decided to do a little investigating. i see the bracket that has broken off on the passenger side so i'm going to order one up. for now a few zip-ties will hold the bumper on.
getting the trim off without chipping the pain on the bumper was the hardest part, the rest was obvious. any tips for getting off the trim without denting the plastic and paint?
e34freak1993 06-22-2008, 01:26 AM Stick a flat head screw driver in with some tape on the outside of it?
No scratching! Thats what i did! Hope this helps
