I'm looking at an 05 Competition coupe for sale which sounds nice. I was able to find out where the car was serviced so I asked the dealer for the service history.

There were a couple of interesting items reported that seem a bit unusual that I would like to get some feedback.

- May 06 at12k miles: Dealer reported the right side airbag was replaced. Customer reported that it deployed when car hit a pothole. This was
- Nov 07 at 29k miles: Dealer reported that customer requested that H&R lowering springs be replaced with stock M3 springs. At same time, dealer recommended that the rear control arms be replaced.

All of this was done under warranty by dealer. The car came from the Pittsburg area so the roads certainly aren't the smoothest in the country.

My questions are:
- Does it seem plausible that an airbag could deploy without an accident?
- Could the stiff/lowered springs/rough roads cause the control arm issues?

Obviously I'm trying to eliminate the possibility of an accident. The car is remote from my location. If I can get a general good feeling on the car, then I would definitely have a PPI performed.

Just looking for any feedback or experiences.

Thanks.

Keith

Airbag deployment from a pothole sounds fishy. It takes a good whack to blow those things.

Airbags for the 05 M aren't listed but I am surprised at how many are...

hmm this is interesting. I havent heard of this happening, but this class action suit seems to give some legitimacy to what I thought seemed like a shady lie.

the roads through PA out west are HORRID. I've seen potholes the size of Kia's. I know a guy with a 240 who has bent in half (aka, TACO'ed) 2 different wheels on I-80 alone.

Will it deploy an air bag? i don't know.... but the pot holes are real and it can be a huge hit... perhaps its enough to break the magnet away from its hold, thus creating the circuit for the SRS to deploy.
