So I just got my new DLS MS5 component set. Thanks BennyZ!

The 5.25 speakers fit perfectly, but now for the tweeter. I have a 1994 325i sedan with the one-piece tweeter. I've been staring at it for about an hour trying to figure out how I can use it. I've seen other threads with people mentioning just using the 4" spot on the door for the tweeter.

Hope the professionals have a solution. Thanks!

Maybe my install thread can help you. I showed how I installed the DLS UP1C tweeter into the stock grill. Find it here (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1020975). You'll need a Dremel or other rotary tool.

You have the 2-piece tweeter. I'm pretty sure that 1995 and older had a one piece design which makes it impossible to take apart unless I'm missing something.

I did see your thread previously and was wondering why my tweeter housing didn't look like that.

Have a look in this (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=588762&highlight=up35) thread then. His tweeters are different than mine, maybe you have these?

can you take a picture of your stock door speakers?

you should have a midrange and tweeter in your doors - at least that is what it sounded like when we were talking before. ?

I do have both the mid and tweeter in the door, non HK. I removed the tweeter from the door panel and noticed that it was glued the housing. It is totally unlike the photos I've seen of the 2-piece tweeter housing.

Marc, the tweeters in that thread are also the 2-peice. Attached to the magnet of my tweeter is a bolt. When reinstalling, you put the tweeter in the door and attach a metal bracket over the back. A nut holds the bracket and tweeter together. The others (96 and newer I presume) are much different.

That sucks. Maybe try junkyard diving for the regular ones? You'll have no issues finding them.

you should be able to use the mounting cups that come w/ the tweeters inside the hole for the oem tweeter and simply hot glue it into place from behind.

will that work?

The mounting cups that come with the set do not contour to the door and wouldn't fit flush. I watched this video on the tweeter install:

My tweeter grille looks nothing like that one in the video. There is also this post with another member claiming that his tweeter was one-peice and would not come apart. I should have taken photos before I put the door back on..i know i know.

this was from my e36 dls 3-way install. the contour of the tweeter may not have been *perfect*, but it was darn close and i never thought it was an issue. yours won't fit like this?

I was trying to keep the stock look, but that way would work. I might hold out a few days for so 95+ tweeter housings.

I'm very happy with the product so far. I think it may cause me to take it a step or two further since I've got the audio itch now. I've heard of some free-air subs that bolt in the rear deck to replace the OEM's. What are your thoughts for a little bass. I'm certainly not looking to rattle down the road, but some clean, tight lows would be nice.

Don't listen to BennyZ... He just sold you those so he could justify buying a new Hybrid Audio set. :)

Just kidding BennyZ.

OP, if you are looking for tight bass, check out the Hybrid L8's.

They are not SPL subwoofers, but they work incredibly good as a SQ subwoofer in an infinite baffle design like you are looking for.

gotcha... it wasn't making sense to me, but now it clicked.

as 12v mentioned, the l8 is great for infinite baffle. do you have a ski pass in your sedan?

however before jumping into a subwoofer, i would look into an amplifier for those component speakers. if you just have them hooked up to the oem amplifier you are not hearing their full potential. the midrange that the larger speaker in the door is playing should be split between the two new speakers via the crossover that came with them, but as you have it connected they are only playing the frequencies of the oem speakers they replaced. the selling point of the dls set is their sweet midrange frequency response and you are not taking advantage of that. 12v has an inexpensive 2-channel blaupunkt amp that would do them wonders. i think it's only $60 or so.

+1

I thought you were running an external amplifier. You would notice a big improvement over your stock amp if you were to replace it. The amp he recommended is:

This would work great, the only probem is that you would need a line level converter to process the signal from your (I assume) stock head unit.

If you want to add a subwoofer, you may want to consider a different amplifier. Let me ask you a question. Are you running back speakers also?

I'm running stock rear speakers but have faded the factory radio almost all to the front components. I will be installing a CD43 next week, as keeping the stock look is a goal of mine.

I might hold off on the sub for now, and see how these components sound after I install properly. I know I'll need the line level converter to make this all work. Do you have one of those with a Install for Dummies kit?

That Blaupunkt amp looks nice too, especially the price. This is my commuter, so I can't be giving her too much love.
