View Full Version : So this is also the electronics forum, eh? NON-AUDIO ITT

Here's my first non-audio-related thread.

First, does anyone have a picture of what their cluster looks like on startup with everything lit? Or is there some sort of test that lights everything?

I did find this (http://www.geocities.com/ebaines/e36_instruments.htm) but it doesn't light all the lights (unless mine are burnt out).

Here is a picture of my cluster when turning the car on (which shows more lights than the above test):

I can already tell that my fog light indicator is burnt out, since my fogs are on and there is no green light in the dash like my friend's 328is has. What else am I missing? :stickoutt

Personally, I'm a bit worried that my SRS light might be on, but burnt out, since I've removed my seats quite a few times while doing audio stuff...

Now onto the next question, which is explained by the following video I made:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXT5Eq8hDVI

Basically, is the trunk supposed to "double-lock" like that, or is something up with my central locking?

...and finally, the last question:

Do E36 cars have the ability to OPEN all windows when holding the key in the door in the open position? I know you can close all of them by holding the key in the door in the closed position, but I can't open them in the opposite manner.

Thanks everyone! I'm trying to fix all my little electrical gremlins while my car is in pieces for my audio install.

1. If you need the 1.5w bulbs (tan base) we have them in stock.

They als work in the 1.2w spaces with slightly brighter results

2. From what I remember of my E36, the trunk lock is working correct. I believe this is a valet feature. You would lock things in your trunk and give the Valet your valet key.

3. Your windows should auto open too. You may want to check inside your door for a loose switch on the open side.

It has been a long time since I had my E36, so this is what I remember. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

1. Thanks, as soon as I figure out if anything's burnt out, I'll let you know if I need anything.

2. I think it's a valet feature too... but I'm not sure. The seats fold down from the inside anyway so :lol

3. Are you sure about that? I just finished fixing the rest of my central locking stuff and I plugged all of the loose stuff back in. Should it open from both the driver AND passenger side? Because the passenger side only has one harness/plug, and it seems to be only for the lock.

3. I am not sure. It has been almost a decade since I had an E36. I had keyless entry and almost never used the key. I remember window roll down with the remote. Does your owners manual say anything??

None of the "extra" features are even in the manual :(... Oh well. I hope you guys enjoyed my film making skills, at least.

It wouldn't surprise me. We sell Blaupunkt products also made in Germany and they do not tell us any "bonus" features that are "important".
