Hello,
Shimmy Problem..
Can someone help me? I just purchased a 1997 BMW 740il in great condition, But it has one little problem. Upon decelerating at the speed of around 40 to 50 miles an hour, the can has a little shimming in what seems to be the frond end. Is this a common problem for this model?

It could be a common problem based on various situations. You don't give mileage so we don't know if the suspension has been replaced or is original.

We also don't know what type of wheels you have (original or aftermarket)...you could have e39 wheels on which have a larger wheel hub.

You could also have worn brake rotors...or worn front suspension parts (mileage again, could be an indicator).

You can post back with more details...or use the info above and do an advanced search on the 7 series forum...using brakes, rotors, suspension, aftermarket wheels, or similar keywords to help focus on what may be your particular situation.

Good luck.

It's more of a general thing, but I happen to have a 97 740i with similar issues, so random coincidence, but...

Whenever I get a new car, I try to get the alignment checked and rotate wheels (if possible) as this will usually ensure that the tire shop runs a balancing on them.

That, and unfortunately, it narrows the problem down if it persists.

Good Luck!

Bleh I need a balancing and Jeff I actually think the wheels I got off of you are hubcentric for a 5. I was bored and tried throwing them on my 5 series and awkwardly enough they fit perfect. When I put them on the 7 I wasnt sure if they fit flush or with a bit of space... You have any info on the wheels?
