I am getting a E38 very soon and I was curious if there was a diesel engine that would fit if I was so inclined to, with the price of gas I am starting to think of bio-diesel very seriously.

I know this would be quite a project but I am wondering if its possible what diesel engines I should look into?

The easiest diesel conversion would be an E38 fitment diesel from overseas. According to the BMW Wiki, the E38 came with a 2.5 and 2.9 liter 6 cylinder or a 3.9 liter V8. If you find a good importer, let me know.

That engine bay will probably fit just about anything. Let me know what you find out, I'd consider converting my car to a 740d Sport.
