View Full Version : Anyone here running a turbo 318ti?
GardenBeast 06-14-2008, 07:15 PM Was driving today, and had a 240sx go by, and fell in love with the sound of a turbo, and bov.
I really don't know too much about turbo'ing anything, or what to buy.
and every site that sells kits seems to ignore the 318's
I'd do a dasc, but... I kinda like the idea of a turbo a little better. Also, I figure i can piece it together over a few months when I can afford stuff, maybe.
Any suggestions? Yes I tried searching too.... but I'd like to get some "real time" answers.
slcook54 06-14-2008, 07:22 PM The reason most companies don't turbo ti's is that you can simply swap in an M3 motor for cheaper. I would look into swapping in a S52 and if you still want to turbo it, you'll have a much better power plant to work from.
bmw buddy 06-14-2008, 07:37 PM there is this mani

or the neuken one which is about $600 but the quality and material used is much better.
the issue you might run into is the tuning but then this came along

GardenBeast 06-14-2008, 07:53 PM hey! thanks. i'd love to turbo a bigger engine, but i can never get together the funds. an m50 here is 1900, and an s50 is near 3000. frickin canada!
what else is needed for a turbo? exhaust manifold, turbo, piping, intercooler, etc... anything for the intake manifold?

I would look around for a way of retuning your ecu first before I even started looking for parts. Next will be the turbo manifold. Everything else are all universal (turbo, intercooler, pipings, fittings, oil lines, injectors, fpr, etc.). Doesn't really matter what kind of engine you have, whether 1.8, 1.9, 2.5, 2.8 or soo. If 1.6 SOHC honda engine can handle 400hp I'm sure BMW can too. Better engine, better engineering, whatever. The only problem is there's no way to retune it unless you pay over $600 dollars just for tuning. Not alot of sources out there too. So I would find somebody that can retune you dme first.
DASC RACER 06-24-2008, 01:42 PM i was selling my turbo set up a while back but because no one had interest in it i just help onto it. maybe i'll try putting it up for sale again..
i wouldnt get to into it before you look into engine managment, and what to do about that ultra restrictive maf thing the m42 uses, it has a opening you can barely fit a bic lighter through

Yup, m42 + Tuning = :thumbdown I've been down this road. You could use an FMU with low boost, but the better option would be a piggyback, but there will still be some compromises.
Zombie63B 06-24-2008, 05:00 PM he could always go the megasquirt route http://www.megamanual.com/index.html and talk to the guys on e30tech. there should be a few turbo m42's on there
