View Full Version : I need my A/C serviced/re-charged (E39/NYC)
mookish 06-13-2008, 01:48 PM Does anyone know a good place I can go to have my A/C re-charged in NYC? Last year I went to Jiffy Lube and of course the guy spoke like he was an expert then it turns out he didn't have a clue. If all else fails I'll go to the dealer but I want to get it done this weekend, with them you have to schedule in advance (I think).
My preference:
Queens
Brooklyn
LI (Nassau)
Everywhere else.
We can do it but we're not open on weekends.

mookish 06-13-2008, 03:00 PM Project M spec or go to freakin pep boys buy the damn can and fill it its not rocket scienceUm, give me some credit. I don't think it's that simple, from what I understand the system needs to be evacuated and then recharged. You can't do that with the pep-boys kit otherwise I would have done that long ago. More info on project M spec.

mookish 06-15-2008, 11:10 AM Project M spec or go to freakin pep boys buy the damn can and fill it its not rocket scienceWell, it may not be rocket science, but I took it to a shop with the proper equipment only to find out my compressor is shot.
I did the recharge only to find out I have a bad leak and my A/C holds no pressure.Always test for leaks first so save from wasting time.
Anyway, my compressor is done, didn't even need dye to find the leak, you could just hear the air hissing out through the seals. Now to find a good used or new compressor. How much should I expect to pay for either?

Actually I had the exact same symptom, got a can from pep boys, I could always hear it hissing out, I took it to BimmerClinic, bill drained the system, vacuumed it or whatever, and filled it back out, and now it works GREAT!!!!

When my system was hooked up with compressed air, you could hear it coming right out without even being close to the car. When we sprayed some soapy water on the compressor, it blew it right back in our face, no bubbles. The seal is leaking bad, a charge would not last.
