Let me offer input and current data from someone who has been competing on this on this track area since Maui SCCA moved to this site several years ago. Close to 300 gallons of sealer has gone down in just the past month. Prior to that, over one hundred man hours was invested into cleaning and creating several new turns and improving the existing areas. A gate has been installed to prevent damage from unwelcomed 'visitors'. Having said that, the area the Maui SCCA uses is not to be considered a world class facility. Most drivers make use of painters tape to prevent damage from the errant rock, which is a precaution I take. There are some very nice cars competing on a regular basis. Garage queens need not apply. :buttrock I'd suggest to get over here and race while the area is still there! Next event is June 22nd. Photos, the schedule and soon the results can be viewed at www.mauiscca.net platano234 06-14-2008, 03:23 PM Next event is June 22nd. I was looking at the site and saw all the pictures......I don't know about taking my M3 down there.....there is alot of loose rocks on that pavement...... ronin009 06-14-2008, 03:35 PM you would or you wouldn't??? wouldnt. MauiM3Mania 06-14-2008, 04:06 PM I drive my 99 M3 as seen here; http://mauiscca.net/2008/032308/pages/03230574.htm The car in my sig is my road car. Sure, there are rocks out there, but the courses we run don't use the loose gravel areas. bmwdirtracer 06-14-2008, 08:35 PM Hi, Gentlemen: I haven't been to Bimmerforums in several years, though I've continued to race the marque, teach at Maui and Oahu CCA events, and work on bimmers by day. My screen name at other forums is now Tailhappy, replacing the bmwdirtracer of yore...back before SCCA Maui, where I've been racing since the first event, some 5 years ago. Regarding the present discussion: Scott's been racing his near-pristine 99 M3 with Maui SCCA since the Club's beginning: and trust me, he REALLY cares about it. And I love my hugely modified e28 535, and Erik loves his M5, and we've all raced here, every month, for years. Our tire wear is faster than I've found, teaching at Brands Hatch, Sebring, Silverstone and other tracks. Yet I'd wear through a full set of tires, in one sprintrace, at Thruxton, Oulton Park, and others. That's racing; here, competitors routinely expect 6-8 race events per set of 710''s. Rock chips? Badges of honour for some, proves you've actually used the car for fun. Those more concerned use blue tape to good result. One ticket, for using one's performance car to HALF the limits we see, will cost you a whole lot more than an extra set of tires every eight months! I highly encourage all the Oahu members to come race with the many devoted Bimmerheads here on Maui. We're hoping to have a BMWCCA event in the near future too, as in the past, in association with MauiSCCA. As Scott mentioned, the many BMWCCA/SCCA member/racers on Maui are a committed bunch: we paid for and laid down hundreds of gallons of pavement sealer in the last month alone. Don't abuse your bimmer by babying it too much: come on over and race it. Remember that complaints about conditions are often made by those who don't race, and NEVER HAVE. With tire wear and a few potential paint chips the only potential hazards, Maui's autox is a lovely place for any self-respecting M car. Chris Powell igyloo 06-25-2008, 05:50 PM Nice to hear that things have changed for the better on Maui. A group of us came out a couple years ago and it was pretty bad since only a few areas were sealed. It was definitely different from what we were used to, but fun none the less. I guess the same should be said to the Maui SCCA group. I encourage you to come to Oahu and autox at the stadium. No big rocks and the surface is easy on tires. platano234 06-25-2008, 06:26 PM I guess the same should be said to the Maui SCCA group. I encourage you to come to Oahu and autox at the stadium.
