View Full Version : E38 Headlight Bulb Type?
GundamSV7 06-11-2008, 12:44 AM Ok, this may seem like a stupid question, but what type of bulbs does the E38 use for low beam, high beam, and fog light? I have an E38 I just bought on the way and I'm trying to order an HID kit, but after doing a search, I keep getting mixed results, some say H1, some are saying H7, a clear answer would be nice...thanks!
04SSHD 06-11-2008, 12:54 AM depends on what year
95-98 = H1
99 Non Xenon, non projector = H7
99-01 Factory Xenon = D2S

O, ok, thanks, that makes sense now, I will be getting my 1995 740iL in two days :) can't wait, I'm already ordering a load of parts for it.
Also, do you know if I'll need a special error message removal wiring harness or something if I convert to HID's? Some have said that after an HID conversion, the BMW's system will generate a computer error message, but does this apply to my 1995 or is it only for the 99+ newer 7-series?

depends on the type of kit you use. With the kits I sell you don't. Some do some don't it all depends on how the ballasts are wired internally. Worse case you can have your car coded at the dealership to have the Xenon's enabled in the car's DME, or you can install load resistors, or you can get a kit compatible with the BMW check system.

How much do your kits cost and/or do you have a website?
04SSHD 06-11-2008, 01:31 AM I do $140 shipped for the V-LED kits, ultra slim ballasts, 1 year warranty on the kit. They are from a US distributor and manufactured in Japan unlike the low quality Chinese kits found everywhere online. PM if you want more details.
I think a new kit for $140 w/ warranty + slim ballasts is a pretty good deal. I would so get them if I had the money.

What exactly are these? Cooler lights? Got pics?

Just a tip: as you can see from the answer you got...in order for us to really be helpful...you need to give more car info (model & model year at the least....production date and pictures at the most)...to say that you have an e38 really doesn't help us help you better because there are many small changes from model year to model along the production from 1995-2001.
Please update your car info or create an up to date signature that includes your car info that would be required to answer some specific or unique questions etc. :)
Welcome. :D
