I just bought a 2001 740il. It has the useless Motorola flip phone in the armrest - which is totally useless. Is there any armrest replacement to eliminate the phone - or is there a replacement phone I can get that work on the current 3G networks - or is there a cover I can get to shield my forearm from this little phone? I would rather just have a solid armrest.

yes, no and yes.
There is a solid one piece arm rest available. I think there's one on ebay right now. Tan color I think. Or you can buy just a plain tray insert much like the ones under the pads now. Or, you can go with a Blue tooth kit from bimmernav.com which is a rather expensive route and the one I chose. I had to fabricate the tray for the razr to fit the e38 armrest but many did it before me.
