about time to reset the oil service indicator on the wife's 04 mini CVT - looking about -

i found this on another site -

Turn ignition to position 0 (steering locked)
2. Press and hold the trip reset button
3. Turn the ignition switch to position 1 (steering unlocked). Within 5 seconds the display shows current service indicator status (OIL SERVICE or INSPECTION)
4. Release the trip reset button.
5. Press and hold trip release button for 5 seconds to change to reset mode. Display flashes rst
6. Press reset button again. Current service requirement is reset and display shows new status for 5 seconds.


has anyone used this to reset their oil service indicator?

if it is a bogus method - then what is the correct procedure?

in other news -

really annoying dash rattle seeming to come from in and behind the air vent on the center of the dash; right under the security led.

Has anyone experienced this same rattle and if so - how did you fix it?

I've reset my service lights like that.
The rattle was fixed by the dealer taking apart the dash and installing shims.

That method for the service light works.

I also have a small rattle in the center of my dash that usually only occurs when someone is in the passenger seat. Does anyone know of an exploded view I can get a hold of to see how that dash comes apart?
