the subject says it all, what would it take.
I figure the most obvious parts, Engine, tranny, driveshaft, ECU, diff.

what am i missing?
imagine the look on some poor sap who bought his m3 to pic up chics when he gets his doors blown off by a lowly sedan!

i'm not a e46 expert....but i believe you would just need the engine and ecu really if your going bare minimum. just swap the engine along with engine wiring harness and ecu. but if you want to make a full m3 clone, then you will need the trans as well, and i'm sure the e46 m3, just like most other models, has a different diff ratio, and maybe a difference in the brake/axle size. but again i'm more familiar with the e36 chassis. but everything should be pretty simple, i would suggest finding a doner car if you can, that way you could rob the engine mounts just to make sure. and you will want to compare and check the ABS wheel speed sensors, i know thats the main problem in putting the e46 m3 engine in older cars, but with it still being a e46 body i think it should be the same. everything else should just plug and play. the worst you might have to do is take your drive shaft to a machine shop that balances them, and have them shorten or lengthen your drivshaft, but you might not have to have that done, i dont know, and even if you do that shouldnt be to expensive, i know i got quoted around 100 bucks to mod a drive shaft for putting a m3 rear end in a 318is.

the wiring harnesses are totally different.

i'm no expert, but i've seen a page about this and the guy had to buy both harnesses and cut and splice bits and pieces of the two together until he finally had a complete harness...electrical nightmare.

Sell the 330 and buy an M. itll be cheaper...especially considering the money youll save on tylenol.

pardon any spelling...i'm a tad buzzed

Buy an M3, take all the badges off and put a 330Ci body kit and wheels on it. TA-DA! Sleeper!

It will cost a lot,a whole suspension, engine harness and many other things are drifferent.I suggest you get some shop to do it for you or if you do it alone...atleast you need to have some experience since u need swap many parts+engine harness.

Even many body parts are different, you cannot just put front m3 bumper...

Lemme put it to you this way, I have seen and read about the guy in England that built a E39 M5 Touring in his driveway. not a side by side 2 car driveway but a one behind the other driveway.. If he did that including all the wiring, with a some help from a few friends, whats to say i cant do this in my driveway.

All I ask is that if you can help me and point me in the right direction, by all means, feel free.

If your response is gonna be "its goona cost alot, you need alot of money" then i dont need your help!!!

Sorry to be a d**k but i just tired of people with nothing positive to add

If you know what you are doing, you wouldnt ask such a things on internet forums,i know this sounds stupid but its true, internet can help you but you need some experience before that

again i say if u have nothing positive to add, dont say anything......You dont know what i do, what my finances are, you dont know jack about me... i asked something you gave your .02 cents. i didnt ask your opinion again, but yet still you felt like adding .02 more cents.....i didnt ask for it......

I have been searching the net for weeks trying to find ppl that have done it. i found 1 company, Rogue Engineering right here in jersey who can do it but want $65K. All i wanna know is has there been any driveway specials and what parts were used...thats it.

The S54 should bolt up. Hell, it bolts up to the E36 chassis and transmissions. The only issue would be DME/wiring. Not sure if the E46 wiring harness will plug into the S54 DME or whether it even supports individual throttles.

If you could somehow make it through all 200+ pages of the site I mentioned you will get an education on how to do it. Unfortunately the pics are no longer working so you might have to e-mail the guy for some pics. Good luck dude!

Before you get all defensive regarding useless contributions, read my post. I already told you that the physical shit can be done between lunch and dinner. The wiring (not DME's, the ENTIRE HARNESS) isnt compatible and will likely take hundreds, if not thousands of hours to make a hybrid harness from scratch....all because you want 4 doors. If its worth it to you, go to town...if not, then grow a pair, stop getting pissy with everyone, buy an M3 and get over the fact that it is a coupe.

sorry to get all "pissy". just a bad day.

i appreciate the info........ to me, a four door M3 is worth it......i have twins on the way and wanna get it done b4 they get here.

e30'd much?
06-06-2008, 07:09 AM
If a four door M3 is your primary goal and with the amount of $$$ you'd be looking to spend, why not just buy a four door e90 M3 and call it good?

Anyone with the cash can buy a new 4 door M3, not anyone can build one, money may not be the issue here, pride in one's work, building you own, is more important sometimes....

i like where this guy is coming from:buttrock

in other news, i emailed, Rogue Engineering and they quoted me 1.5K for detailed wiring harness work and a "specific" number of support hours. I like the sounds of that. its them saying were not gonna build it for under 65K but for 1.5K we'll show you what needs to be done.

OP sorry but you doing that in a 330i is not that efficient supercharge or turbo it. Or if you're brave and feeling like you are the shit you can go get the E39 M5 motor in there...:devillook

S54 would be bad ass in a wagon!!! everything else is mehh
