Chaps, I have had an engine oil leak since I bought the car but I've been living with it. I need to get it fixed now as it's ruining my driveway. The transmission is covered in oil, but i'm pretty sure the oil is coming from the engine as it's black and the tranny oil level is stable. Have a look at the photos, any ideas? I think the wet pipe (what is it btw?) by the steering rack is another leak :rolleyes, the main leak is shown in the other two photos. You can see a drip just about to go on one of them.

Nick, I would have to say it is the lower or upper pan gaskets. Way to much oil for the valve covers and the o-ring chain tensioner is localize up front and on the right above the air conditioning compressor. That would be my first guess. I just did my lower and all is well. The upper is much more complicated. Good luck with the repair. You will need a torque wrench with smaller values. Manual states 10Nm for the torque for the 376,487 bolts for the pan. Use some blue locktite, the bolts tend to back out. It is a great time to check the oil pump. These also tend to get loose with time. Chow for now from that other Carter.

Thanks Eight Ball. I'll change the lower gasket and cross my fingers. I read that the upper requires the tranny to come off.... :( What parts do I need, just the gasket?

Yep. The gasket covers the whole parts list. A good time for an oil change also. I applied a thin layer of Permatex Ultra black Hi tem RTV Silicone gaskset maker on the oil pan, put the gasket in place on the oil pan, then applied a thin layer to the gasket itself and next just put it in place on the engine. Do your self a favor, clean and locktite at least half the bolts before applying the RTV. You might need a screw driver to pry the pan off. The pan was glued to the engine and a good smack with a screw driver and it all broke loose at once. Might want to leave several loosened bolts in so it does not come down on you. I made a mess because you don't get all the oil out when you drain it. Hope this helps and if you have any questions ask away. See yea. Regards. Carter
