Has anyone ever successfully swapped an M50 into an E30 iX? Or any other engine for that matter?

If you want to maintain the all wheel drive, you'd have to get creative with the oil pan.

so I'm probably better off building the motor and turbocharging it?

I heard the aw tranny can 't take over 250hp, and is super expensive to replace.

That wont net you too much power either... You could probably work it close but to see 230-240 to the wheels from an m20 you're going to have a LOT of money into it. Like a 2.8 or 3.0 stroker w/ cam, built head an exceptional tune.. etc etc. and you'll be looking at 200~ 230-250WHP is going to be expensive.

Better off building a normal RWD e30 if you're trying for power.

So much bad information floating around the internet!

The transmission isnt the weak spot.

yeah...well, Im not going for huge power...I've got an E36 M3 with a built motor and aGT35 going into it...so the iX is just my winter car...but I wanted to juice it up a little. Something cool to be said to have the power, and have all 4 pulling. Maybe I'll just leave it alone and enjoy it for what it is.
