A strip of the interior just below the angled portion of the center console in the attached picture has come loose.. It is the long white piece beneath the console that continues around the underside of the dash and matches the design on the door in the provided picture and shown as #6 on OEM pagehttp://www.wasatchdrivers.com/forum/images/smilies/custom/frown.gif http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...95&hg=51&fg=30 (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=EF83&mospid=47332&btnr=51_1995&hg=51&fg=30) ) but listed as "trim panel lower right".
Even though it is loose, I can't see what normally holds it in place without pulling it all the way off. It's like just one of the fasteners (the rear one) has broken off and presently interferes with the for/aft movement of the seat. I can't find any info on how it is attached and hesitate just pulling it off and breaking additional fastners. Anyone know the trick/procedure to removing it so I can repair it?

Its a white plug-in spacer. It has a oval opening that is solid on the end (kind of like a miniture bath tub). The trim has a metal prong that snuggly fits into it. Part number? Im guessing from the picture I think its #7(called the "bottom part") But I'll double check for ya tomorrow.

There are also a couple of those black screw-type fasteners on the bottom - don't forget those.
You know, those plugs you push in and then rotate 90 degrees with a flat-head screwdriver...
Usually when that trim piece is loose it's a combination of the two types of fasteners - just replace the female side (the part that fits into the car instead of the trim piece)
Sorry for the lame description - but once you get it off you'll see what I mean.
First thing to do is put the seat all the way back, then remove the two black "screw-plugs" by twisting 90 degrees - they usually fall right out. then carefully pry out the metal prong (attached to the trim piece) from it's fastener in the dash.

You're talking about the part thats under the dash(on top of your feet). You can tell the plugs you're talking about on the picture # 9 and # 10, insert and plug-in nut that hold #8 trim panel door entrance.

The item is the right side panel edition of #6 in the illustration. Some of the replies refer to plug-in twist fasteners which I cannot see or find. Is it held on by hidden snaps that I can just pull the panel straight off? I think some of the replies are referring to another part.

Well on my CSi, this was ripped off when they tried to steal the DVD player and mine was only held on with velcro fastening stuck around the edge. At the time, I had my car since 17000m from new so I think this was stock.
I refitted it the same way and its still there 30000m later.
That part is REALLY expensive too.

There are three things that are supposed to be there holding the panels on. #1 is the metal pins (that often break off) that point more or less straight ahead and into the white plug in spacers. #2 is the plug-in twist fasteners that are on the bottom of the panel and are inserted upwards. These often fall out and are lost as either the plug or the plastic insert that it's pushed into get old/weak and no longer work. Gravity works against you here. If you lie on your back in the passenger footwell and look up, you'll either see the slotted head of the plug or a hole in the panel where it's supposed to go. #3 is the velcro(ish) pads that don't seem to do much in my car, and you can't really do anything to fix anyway.
Hope this helps a bit.
