Let me first take this opportunity to say hie to all good people of this forum since i am new here.
Could u help me with this one, i am a proud owner of E36,1997, 316i and dont wanna let go of the car. I have a few problem though coz i sometimes feel its not quick enough. Now what i wanna do is carry out an engine uprade say 318is(M44) but when i checked the specs i cud see that a E46 318i(N42) is quicker than IS and now waz wondering if its possible to swap M43 for N42 motor. What other parts, except the motor do i need to replace under the hood?

Well it would be hard swap,better swap is M50 or M52,it will cost less,directly bolt on...or even M44 its good but not so much quicker than 316i.So n42 could be in e36,but to much work for little gain i suggest you sell 316i and get something faster and still reliable.

What about an S54 swap?
