My daughter :buttrock and I were parking in the Walmart lot when a riced-out Cavalier pulled up next to us. Two very large girls got out. I said "I wonder if they want to race, we have a weight advantage." We later left and about a mile away we stopped at a red light. Next to us was the same Cavalier. I pulled away in a normal manner and I could hear the Cavalier at full bore. I punched the throttle and pulled them a car immediately. I slammed a shift to second and pulled off the shift knob. I held the clutch in until I could look down and be sure I was in second. The Cav started by me so I punched the gas again and pulled away from them again. After that we were in traffic, when the traffic cleared they didn't try to get next to us again.
That's the second time I pulled the knob off in the heat of battle.

I have the RB III i think.. its nice. except I broke it... gotta send it back for them to fix the wiring and label. And I have the Rogue Octane SSK - which is pretty good stuff too.

Nice kill, nice to the have luxury to stop racing, assess the shifter situation on the fly, resume racing, and still kick his butt... :D

I've gotten so frustrated with my shifter knob. I don't shift hard or anything but it loves to fly off. Last time it did that though, I went and poured a quarter bottle of super glue into it and stuck it back on the stick. Don't think it's going to come off again anytime soon.
Nice kill man :)

Yeah, if it had been any real competition I would have make a fool of myself. I know better than to not keep a little downward pressure on the knob.

The BMW OEM knobs break so easily. The plastic develops stress fractures from heat and vibration. I use a UUC Polished RK Magnum. Big, solid knob, and will never fly off. I cranked the set screw down incredibly tight.

I don't know what you guys do when you're shifting, but I slam the stock shifter around like nobody's business, and I've never had a problem... :dunno

I know what i do to pull the knob off. I pull the knob back and up. I only do this once in a great while.
