I'm going to be replacing my head gasket. Already got the parts, if I need to I can go and rent a torque wrench. I just need a few extra hands because they didn't make this an easy job.

Lemme know if you can show up and help me out.

Awww, come on guys, someone has to be free, for at least a little while. I need the help, other wise it's going to take forever. It's a great chance to get your hands dirty on something, and make a few new friends even.

My car is going into the bodyshop on tuesday to repair yet another hit and run (!@#!@$!). I should have the car back by friday at the latest. If you can wait till friday or saturday I can help out. Otherwise I have no access to a car.

Where abouts in the valley do you live? If you're not too far I could probably pick you up.

I live in north phoenix.. 7th and T-bird...

but be warned.. I'm not exactly the most mechanically inclined... so having me there probably would be the same as doing it yourself.. but I'll help where I can.. I've never done any motor work.. just little repairs and mods by myself... I don't have the equipement to do anything major..besides.. it's memorial day weekend.. give it some time.. I'm sure some other people will reply.... they're just out (drinking)... :D

Any help is good help. Besides, it's always fun to meet another bimmer owner.

Anyone else down for helping out?

i just replaced my starter today (and took off the manifold to replace some gaskets & seals), there are a lot of little nuts & bolts just for the manifold and some of the bottom ones are hard to get too (a long extension, like around a foot, might help out a lot). but be sure to keep everything organized when ur taking everything out.

i haven't looked in the haynes, so i'm not 100% sure if u need to remove the intake manifold off or not (hopefully not) to replace the head gasket. if u do have to take off the manifold, i'd highly recommend ordering gaskets (one tore when i took off the manifold).....or get some make-a-gasket silicone stuff at autozone or something.

i have to goto orientation for my new internship on tues......not sure when it get's done (i heard around 3-4pm). but i'll call u guys when i get done & if ur still working on it i'll come over too :D

matt, i'm free friday nite & sat....the rear euro bumper should be fast: 8-10 bolts to undo and drill 2 holes. let me know if ur euro bumper came w/ the side bolts, if not i may have some that will work.

Doug, wtf man, I live at 59th ave and Tbird! :)

I can start a car pool over to Matts or at least just stop and get Iniquity.

My dad was warning me about nuts breaking and stuff, so I intend that we're going to soak anything we're going to take off with WD-40 for a minute before we try and get it off. Just to be on the safe side.

I'll look into that gasket silicone stuff over here at checker. It's pretty bad, the manager knows me by name already. "Hey Robbie, what can I do for you today?" lol

Jason - ill give you a call when the bumper arrives..
hopefully i can get it and my new spoiler on for the june 1st drive!! mmm..
BTW : check the E21 forum.. intake completely done

Matt, I just called an left a msg on your cell. I wanna get a pretty early start on it, or at least just get to your house early, so the engine can have at least an hour to cool off before we start banging around in there. Last time we did it was still pretty hot, so yea.

Iniquity, you still wanna go? I'll swing by to pick you up if you pm me your address. It's on the way to Matt's house.

IMO, there's not much of a chance a nut or bolt will break while trying to take it off.....them germans used hi-quality stuff :D but wd40 never hurts.

that's good that u don't have to take off the manifold (thanx for the info doug :D ). there's only a couple things holding the manifold down:
-there's the manifold support stand thing, it's connected by two 10mm nuts and it's located by the throttle body (the throttle cable is attached to this support stand)
-the oil dip stick tube is attached to the manifold by a 10mm nut also
-the top clamp holding the intake boot to the throttle body might need to be loosened.

i'll try and stop by tomorrow evening (and maybe come w/ a weird surprise, hehehe)

That's cool Shane. Whatever works out for you, you know? Probably more comfortable for you that way. My car is going to be pretty full on the way over.

List of stuff I'm bringing:
-Cooler full of ice and sodas (all diet :( that's all I have over here)
-Metal workshop fan x2
-Head gasket kit
-Ziplock bags for nuts
-Sticky notes for ziplock bags
-Wires ect for sound stuff
-Plastic car ramp x2
-Can of wd40
-My mooching friend David

I'm pretty sure that's about it. It'll be fun trying to pack that all in the trunk hehe. So yea, I'm just going to chill out for a while, I might try and get my car washed before I come over, but I don't know if I'll be that motivated.
