Hi, 2001 740il 122k miles (not steptronic...ie standard PRNDL) shift (with 2005 factory BMW replaced engine)
Trans Fail Safe Prog started popping coming out of reverese. Oh and brake anti-lock pops on, with service engine now.
error code 1747 (can bus error - I believe that this is the electronic control loop that ties in the computer) and 0600)
Left overnight, all is well trans is fine....
leave in park idling for 10 mins..TFSP pops up again.
Now a few days later..the dash goes dead every 2 or 3 minutes then pops back up to life..a trend that is somewhat disquieting!!
Several threads lean toward a reverse / neutral switch that is funky giving false readings to the "can bus" hence the I'm confused and in limp home mode.
I was directed to purchase a new trans shifter that should have the suppoed swithc on it. It arrived from BavarianMW but no swithc to be found..just the solenoid, and the lever with cable.
Can anyone tell me the part number of the faling switch and or what assembly it is attached to, and faling that can it be cleaned with contact cleaner..??
Thanks
USKiwi...John
