Will a 35w HID bulb work in a 55w ballast without any issue?

Interesting question. I had 35w ballasts before until I thought one of the bulbs went out. Ordered new bulbs only to find out my ballast was bad. Replaced the ballasts with 55w DDM. Everythign works great.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable could correct me, but I dont think it matters what the bulb is, because its the ballast that powers it...

I wouldn't. If it were the other way around (55w bulbs and 35w ballasts), it should be okay. I could be wrong though.

I'm sure the bulbs don't have to match any rating, send a pm to habbie or the ddm guys and ask maybe they know.

I heard from DDM that they used the same bulb for both 35w and 55w. So you should be good. They just buy 1 type of bulb in mass quantities to save on cost.

So the answer to your question is yes.

That's interesting but doesn't make much sense to me. It sounds like the ballast is 55w and no matter what bulb you put in there it will still be 55w. Maybe Xenons are different than other bulbs? If for some reason I want to go back to 35w, then it sounds like I need to change the ballast not just the bulb. Am I missing something here?

Can I plug 55w bulbs into 35w ballasts?

I have 35w hid lows and i want 55w. can i just swap in the 55w bulbs?

I doubt you can go forwards but then what do I know. From what's been said, the bulbs are the same, ballasts are different.

AFAIK, they are the same capsules. The difference is the ballast.

I bought them, haven't installed them yet. They look like they're built very well...

If that means anything.

bulbs are bulbs. the ballast is the thing giving them the power... as far as DDM goes... so whatever ballast you have is what your wattage is.

they are NOT the same bulbs. think about it, 35w kits use 35w bulbs and 55w kits use 55w bulbs. common sense.

Depends on the bulbs.
If you got them from us, yes they will work
Our bulbs are rated to 60w, the ballast will determine how much power the bulb will receive.
If you purchased the bulbs from another company I am unsure if they will work.

Hey man, leave Marcus alone. He admits he does not know everything and he tries very hard. That beats the alternative by a smile. :)

I asked this question in case I wanted to switch out bulbs in my 55w kit. If something I could get down at Autozone in 35w would work or not and if it would it be 55watts of output because of the ballast or 35w because of the bulb. Still don't know :)

My guess would be that a 35w bulb would only put out 35w in spite of the ballast like a regular household bulb. In any case I think these are great kits and mixed with the e39 projector deal it's even better for me.
