I have an ex E36 HK amp that I got off ebay and installed in my 8, but I found out there are in fact two HK amps in so equiped E36s, with different part numbers.

Do we have two amps as well? The one I have seems to be working fine. :shifty

I like it. With the stock head unit, I can crank it up without much distortion. I can't compare it to OE unit though, I honestly don't remember. :stickoutt I got the amp off ebay for like $20. I was happy. :cool

Is the HK amp 'set up' the same as the stock 8 amp? What I mean is: same amount of inputs, built-in crossovers, etc?

yeah, my father drives a 3 series with the HK surround system and it's phenominal. Replacing the amp has been a huge priority for me but I never really researched it.

Yup, plugged right in, no problem. You do need to change the carrier unit.
