View Full Version : SOUTH CAL/SAN DIEGO MEET or CRUISE?!
savemike 05-24-2003, 03:03 PM Hey, I live in Encinitas/San Diego and was curious if anyone wanted to have some kind of meet or cruise anywhere around here. I already know like 5 or six people in the area that want to meet up, but I was seeing if more people wanted to join in. We could go anywhere in the area, south to downtown Sand Diego, or north up to LA...I dont care. Either PM me, or leave a post if you want to or not. -Mike
ReNNeN.CaRL 05-24-2003, 03:39 PM im in...just post the date and time and meeting spot. pleez?!
CarbonBlkE36 05-24-2003, 04:02 PM im down, but we should keep it local, in SD, like a MB, PB, LJ cruise would be good......................
reppin the 858!!!!
savemike 05-24-2003, 04:55 PM Cool, I actually moved here 10 months ago, so If you guys want to decide on a place that would be fine. Yea, a cruise to like PB sounds good, and we could take group shots by the beach or whatever.
As for the date...how bout next Saturday, the 31st?
-Mike
CarbonBlkE36 05-24-2003, 09:37 PM mike, what kinda car u got??

krispy kreme, right? on clairemont? for tuesday i mean.
savemike 05-25-2003, 01:12 PM So we are meeting Tuesday? How many people usually show up there? If not you guys still up for a cruise on Saturday? -Mike
ReNNeN.CaRL 05-25-2003, 02:47 PM krispy kreme i am goin to, but saturday for a cruise im not sure.
Ben Carufel 05-25-2003, 05:11 PM Yea, Krispy Kreme on Tuesday nights around 730 is the SoCalEuro meet. Lots of Audis/VWs. We need more Bimmers. Last week was my first time...this week I'll do my best to make it. Next week I'll have my tires on my new wheels so I'll be rockin those.
jsp98m3 05-25-2003, 05:32 PM Where's this Tuesday thing at? What Krispy Kreme?
Maybe we can go on a drive to Audio Excellence and see if Kenny is any further along with my M3? ;)

I'll go with you Jim, then to Krispy Kreme. :D
Usually we swap Krispy Kremes and Tea Station every other week. Last week we went to KK so this Tuesday is Tea Station. I usually go to the ones at KK. I prefer donuts over boba. As far as a cruise or meet goes, you might want to make it a little further down the road so it gives more people a chance to know about it. Plus my 21st b-day is Friday the 30th, so I will most likely be a bit hung over:D
savemike 05-26-2003, 05:03 AM Yea...I am going on vacation back to my home town in Chicago on sunday, so I thought maybe a cruise could sneak in before then. But I for sure want to go on Tuesday night. How do I get there? Its on Clairmont blvd?...someone said or is it just in Clairmont?
Just give me directions from the 5 south from Encinitas. Thanks, Mike

savemike 05-26-2003, 01:58 PM Palomar? I guess Ill just look on mapquest to find krispy kremes. -Mike
IgotMy18s 05-26-2003, 02:07 PM i live by Audio Excellence, when we going to cruise there so i can just meet u guys there.
Jeff - I'm down for a Palomar run, maybe I can ride with Tim up or something. I don't necessarily like to drive my car up there.
I need to get my bushings replaced up front, I'm getting a little bit of shimmy. And I'm a bit burnt-out on driving like that after Palomar 2 weeks ago and autox on saturday.:embarrasm I'll have Tim do the driving, my little car is tired:rolleyes:

Ben Carufel 05-26-2003, 03:31 PM Krispy Kreme is on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard. From the 5 south you want to take the 805 South at the split (the 5 splits off to become the 805, or keeps going to stay the 5) then get off at Clairemont Mesa Boulevard. It's the first exit after you cross over the 52. Then go right (WEST) on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard. You'll see the Krispy Kreme on your right in about 3 miles. It's in the same shopping center as Pacific Theatres Town Square 14.
Tea Station, if I remember right, is RIGHT off of the 805 at Clairemont Mesa Blvd. Go the same way you would go to get to Krispy Kreme, but as soon as you make that right hand turn onto Clairemont Mesa Blvd off of the freeway you want to flip a u-turn at your first light and it's in that shopping center right there next to the freeway. There's a Godfather's Pizza there for reference.
bugzy 05-26-2003, 03:38 PM this week May 27th will be at Krispy Kreme
wooo hooo !! more BMW's !!
Ben Carufel 05-26-2003, 06:48 PM Hey bugzy, you missed last week right? Didn't see you there...

Jim what time are you going to Audio Excellence? I get off from work at 4 or so, are you headin there before or after?
I'm down for Palomar anytime
I sussed out a mega east county run today ... anyone want to do a 150 mile run through the mountains and back????? :D
No food meets for me, after next weekend I'm swearing off food for a while....
jsp98m3 05-27-2003, 12:27 AM Ok, I'll try and make Krispy Creme tomorrow. I can't get out of work early though, Senior Management meetings all fricking day and a big proposal to write afterward.
But if anyone wants to go by Audio Excellence for me and beg Kenny to get my car done, I'd apprciate it.
Getting a car done at a stereo shop is quite a chore. I can imagine people would be wandering in all the time to get stuff put in immediately. Sigh.... Oh well, no hurry. :(
jsp98m3 05-27-2003, 12:27 AM g2pinoy,
See you at KK?

Yo Jimbo!
I'm going over to KK after I leave your place. You can follow me. I'll cruise with you down to the stereo shop too if you want. Now that I'm done with school I've got enough time to hang out with you;)
SlowerThanRice 05-27-2003, 04:03 AM Maybe I'll go. I'll park my suby off site of course.
IGotMy18s - I'll call you later on today.
IgotMy18s 05-27-2003, 04:13 AM jsp98m3..what time u going to audio Excellent?
318daily 05-27-2003, 11:22 AM I'm not so into the city streets cruising because we always get split up and it's hard to not get other cars mixed up with our convoy. A canyon run, however, is a different story. If you're burnt on palomar we can try another run, it looks like there are tons of mountain roads NE of san diego.
I'll probably stop by KK tonight but the bimmer is out of commission so i'll be forced to roll in the landcruiser.
see you all there.
jsp98m3 05-27-2003, 11:31 AM IgotMy18s,
I'm not going down to AE for about a week. I was there on Thursday and it looks like they have another week or two of work to do on the car. All I really need is a scheduled date for it to be done because I have to schedule a photo shoot with Euro Tuner and maybe another mag.
ReNNeN.CaRL 05-27-2003, 04:18 PM see you guys at KK tonite.
savemike 05-27-2003, 05:17 PM Cool, Ill be there with me and three other cars tonight. (BMW's). Anyway, another guy I know gets off work at 8 and wants to know how long people are gonna be there till tonight? Let me know ASAP. Thanks. -Mike
savemike 05-28-2003, 02:32 AM Hey...tonight was awesome. Good turn out for BMW's, from what Ive heard, compared to the other nights. It was definitly fun. I have some footage of it; a great trash talk convo between the Evo 8 owner, Guy, and the VW 1.8 turbo owner, uhhh-little kid. But yea, it was fun. And after I come back from Chiacgo on the 22nd, Ill be at lots more events. Thanks. Mike
ps- Ill try and put some footage up before I leave on Sunday .
ReNNeN.CaRL 05-28-2003, 03:10 AM nice meeting all of you. hope to see you again there. tea station next week? it alternates, right?
speshuled619 05-28-2003, 04:00 AM hey jim want me to be your middle man for your car and AE? i know kenny and i kick it with his cuz joey all the time. i live about 10 min away from AE so i can stop by from time to time to check it out.
95sdm3 05-28-2003, 01:27 PM how about june 8th? its a sunday. we can meet early and make the run and then have lunch. distance and course to be determined. suggestions?
jsp98m3 05-28-2003, 01:39 PM Anyone that wants to stop in and check up on my car is welcome. It's a long drive for me. I'll live vicariously through your updates.

I'd probably be interested in either one, unless it's tooo early or something.
What are the time constraints? I could suggest a half-day or full-day run, but those might be too much driving for some people.
The 1/2-day I am thinking of would be like a south county run heading east through El Cajon on the 94 and out past Tecate and hitting the 8 on the way back:
http://www.blek.com/images/94-8.jpg
The full-day would be the same heading out on 94, but instead of coming back on the 8, head up through the mtns to Julian on the Sunrise Hwy and back on the 78.
We don't have to do this for this next run, but it would be nice to do sometime. Hot as hell out there tho, and not sure of paces to stop for food ... might be a BYO type of deal with roadside stops.
Ben Carufel 05-28-2003, 11:04 PM Yeah that was a cool meet last night. Nice to finally meet some more of you new guys...
Mike, definitely post that video of Dumbass talking shit to Guy. I wanna see it over again already so I can laugh at him some more.
You guys are kinda off on that 94 run. 94 is boring, really. Lee, if you're into some great twisties do the Sunrise Highway. It's the first exit past the 79 if you're on 8 East. A nice little loop is 8 East - 79 North - Sunrise Highway (the turnoff from 79 is like 1/2 mile north of Lake Cuyamaca). Then you go to the Sunrise Highway/Interstate 8 junction, turn around, go back up Sunrise Highway to the 79 junction, and take the 79 up through Julian and back down to the Poway Grade and take Poway Road all the way over to the 15. Then you just head home or meet somewhere around there to eat.
Sunrise Highway is incredible, though.

95sdm3 05-29-2003, 11:32 AM the one i want to do is the 94 out to 79 throught julian, stop there for lunch, and then down and on over to palomar and up/down that, and then out the 76 and hit kfpm for dinner. i think that would be too far for most people. that is a nice all day trip
CarbonBlkE36 05-29-2003, 12:26 PM what happened to the cruise, rather than the mountain run??
i'd rather cruise, unless u guys wanna do this run like at 6-7 am........... jus my .02

94 boring? :biglaughb Last weekend I did the full-day run I described above (which included Sunrise hwy) and 94 was by far the most fun stretch of road! You have to go past Tecate for the fun to start. I am serious, it is a true drivers road. With a few really nice banked curves, lots of sharp mountain twisties, and some beautiful straightaways where you can hit speeds that threaten to tear the hood off your car. :astromile And the scenery is very different than the usual mountain run. The only problem is potential traffic which is basically a problem anywhere. But once you pass Tecate it usually thins out nicely. How far out have you been? Maybe you should come along next time I head out there. Great photography potential too. I'm thinking about picking up a Canon G3 soon and when I do I am definitely heading out there with it.
Anyway, just my opinion... I'm up for just about any run. There are lots of cool roads out there.

Whoa that sounds awesome - I'd be up for that. Another cool all-day might be 94 EB to end, then old-80 EB out to the S2 (Imperial Hwy), then all the way through the mountains on WB Imperial Hwy to Julian, or just bypass Julian, stay on S2 to Warner Springs, Palomar, or wherever. :buttrock
We could do these anytime though -- Fall might be great when it's not so :hotflash out there.

i agree about the fall. the s2 highway bypassing julian has great straits. but the 78 highway up the backside of julian(banner grade) has really good twisties.
another all day trip that would be cool as hell would be the 74, palms to pines highway, out to palm springs for lunch and then back the same way.
I am up for any and all, as long as it's not too early a start.
ReNNeN.CaRL 05-29-2003, 09:24 PM this is gonna be fun. cya guys at tea station this tuesday.
