I just got off the freeway and all of a sudden my steering wheel started shaking really hard (an inch right, left, right, left...) It starts at about 2mph and gets progressively stronger at the same time pulling the car to the right. I have to hold the wheel with two hands to keep it straight.

Did a visual inspection of the control arms and bushings and nothing really looked torn or disengaged. What can be causing this? It happened all of a sudden and I did not hit a pothole or anything. Thanks

Check your Tires! Its possible one of the belts in one the tires broke and now the tire is out of round.

Just to update,

BMW Club Racer was right, upon closer inspection I found out that there was in fact a bubble between the belt and the tire.

My question now is why did this happen? The tire was a Pirelli P600 with 40-50% thread left but now the tire is usless. Has anyone ever tried to get the company of the tire maker to replace such tires (is this considered a defect?) Sorry for all the questions but any feedback would be appreciated.

Unfortunately a tire that's been worn that much, the factory will not warranty the tires. If the tire was new and has less then 1k miles on it, then its possible that the factory would warranty the tire. The Factory will just tell you that you hit something. Pirelli also does not make the P600 anymore, its an old tire and hasn't been around for a few years. Its possible that you did hit something at some point, but it took the run on the highway to make it more noticeable.
