If you are not heavy footed it gets better mileage than many pickups and SUVs

With a half a tank or more, I get between 19-22mpg (A/C) on 91+ octane in the city. 24-28mpg highway (A/C). Now this is conservative driving at 60/65 mph.

Put it this way! My 1994 V8 840Ci gets better gas mileage than my 2007 Suzuki XL7 with a V6.

Lol...my car was originally a confiscated drug car from FL, and you wouldn't believe all the little BS parts that have had to be paid attention to/replaced from the search. There were even dents in the hood that were really odd until I realized it was from the dude being slammed onto it from the original stop... I tried it and they were perfect. I mean, how does someone lose the drivers side rear seat bottom only... and the ski bag? kilo stash baby! That said, at least I get better gas mileage due to the reduced weight....:D

You don't have to be a dick about it, I like my car. I've seen other people on these forums that don't own BMW's and yet still post here. I'll get mine soon enough. I was just asking a question.

wasn't going to be a dick about it...
to me,it was a question, that doesn't have any releavance.
your personal situation might not have anything in common with mine or gr8whites or anyone elses for that matter.
asking about how one can afford gas for a car is a bit trivial to me.
but then, i heard about how old you are and i was like... oh... ok, sorry i said anything.
soo...
owning a 8 series is really cool, you should pick-up one for yourself, if you have the means.

Yeah its cool man. I hope to get an 8 series soon, after college (2-3 years). If I can't get an 8 series, then an E39 M5 is next. If that doesn't work out, E36 M3. List goes on...

Start with the e36 - the e39 is even more expensive to maintain properly than our cars - VERY expensive engine...

By the way, my mother's 93 740 pulls on E36 M3s so please pick something a little faster like a E46 M3, maybe.:D After college for you the price of a E46 M3 will have dropped and be much more reasonable.

It can't be that more expensive than a 7 from around the same time.;)

you may be correct, but we are talking about the 8 series on this 8 series forum. You could just as easily say it is just as expensive as a Porsche, Mercedes, Rolls Royce, etc., but that would be just as irrelevant...

I was hoping for a M3 sedan, and they didn't make E46 M3 sedans so thats why I said E36 (I also think it looks better).

Thats why I'm here now, researching these cars to see how expensive they are.

It Ain't the price of gassssss...
It's the price of PARTS that'll get ya.

If you want bang for the buck on gas, get a "Smart Car",
or a motorcycle. Otherwise you guys are just gettin' silly.

Cheers, y'all.

I am sure you meant that the S62 is more expensive than 'our' cars...otherwise, the M62 is what it is.

Said 2-months fresh from a valley pan R+R on the e39 and looking down the gun of the same job for the e31. Couldn't I just plead Double Jeopardy?! :rolleyes

I wasn't aware that they made a M3 sedan until now with the new E92 unless someone did the usual badge add-on/swap to a 325.

Also check out my post in the E36 forum where I worked on a 1997 328 cylinder head.

Beer is now cheaper than gas!

Maybe we can get our M70s/M73s to run off of beer instead!

Agreed with most... it is all relevant. I just got back from my first road trip, a 1100km trip and averaged 22 miles / Imp gallon (appro 4.5 L /Galon) I was expecting much less and enjoyed the ride. Averaging 130km/ hr would be exceeding the speed limit ...........so why would I..;)

The OBC has 2 Consum functions

My Consum 1 shows 21.5 from my last trip down to Richmond and back from Arlington on I-95.

My Consum 2 was reset by me, when I purchased the car, and shows the MPG of the last 7,000 miles since I've owned it. It reads 19.1.

Not bad from any respects, let alone a V-twelve. My 530i is like 22-25 with mixed highway/city.

Solution? The 850 is meant for long, sustained trips. Use it for that, not getting groceries.

I use my 850 for everything....Yes people have taken pictures of me puting on chains on my 240/40/18's to drive up to Mt.Baker Ski Resort anytime during the winter(the 8 does quite well in the snow). :redspot
My attitude has always been...no point in owning it if you dont drive it. Only bad thing is my paint :shifty.....I hate to say it but if gas prices are affecting your lifestyle don't change it by buying a 8 lol..put your dreams on hold...that way you have something to look forward to while you're in your struggle. All in good time....Bytheway I think its obvious none of us has a paper route to pay for gas.

Another good way of affording the petrol in an 8 is to use the same petrol station and ask for receipts for diesel, then claim the friggin' lot back as a business expense and shaft the taxman back.

I'm sure someone must do this?:alright

In the States it doesn't matter if you buy gas or diesel when it comes to business mileage deduction. You get 48.5 cents a mile. Sooo lets see, our company clocked around 500,000 miles in 07...so lets say 500. Combine all the vehicles mileage is around 10mpg. Gas hovered around 3 to 3.75 a gallon....so lets say $3.50.... 3.50 devide by 10mpg is .35 cents a mile. So the write off is 13.5cents a mile. By the time you're done paying IFTA, Insurance, Capital Gains :eyecrazy...bla bla bla Welcome to America Takes money to make money..

Just a side note....Irrelavant cause 99% of you don't use your 8 for business:D
