I was looking through the option list for the e92 335xi, but they wont let you use the 197 mesh rims, only the 189 star spoke style. anyone know the reason for this? I like the mesh style a lot better and am assuming most dealers would swap them, but just wondering if ppl prefer the 5 spoke star wheels.

I like these wheels, which are similar to the ones you're refering to

yeah i like the bbs's but the local dealer doesnt have those, and supposedly the 197's were made by bbs to begin with. I just dont get why the 328 got nicer (to me) looking wheels than the 335's sport package. or at least why they dont even have them as an option

I also noticed you can no longer select different rims on the accessories tab when building a 328 or 335? I haven't looked into the other models but thats kind of strange?

EDIT: That just applies to the XI models, nothing new there, my mistake.

I think I am in the minority but yes, I prefer the 5 or 7 spoke wheels over any type of mesh wheel. My least favorite are the really tight mesh wheels that used to be standard on a lot of the 5/7 series in the 90's. Not sure what style or name they were but yuck. Again though, I think I'm in the minority.

Not only that, they are a pain in the ass to clean. I'll take the easy clean five spoke any day.

These are the ones you're interested in? I think there are good and cheap replicas of these out there. But they are tedious to clean, trust me. They look good shined up though.

They do look nice when perfectly clean, but I don't envy the guy who has to keep them that way. I have enough trouble (time wise) keeping my 7 spoke wheels clean and they are EASY to clean by comparison.

Darn it, Peter, why'd you have to go post a pic of a white coupe -- ahhhhh, it looks friggin' awesome! I always alternate between black and white cars. Technically, my new coupe should have been black, but they did a better deal on the silver because it was in-stock. I've never had a silver car but the titanium coupe did look awesome, I must say, with the 7-spoke 328xi sport wheels.....but now I see the white....d*mn, it looks good.

Oh well, silver is the best color for me anyway, living by the ocean. As far as wheels go, it's a good thing the test-drive car had the 7-spoke 17" wheels (style 185). It wouldn't have caught my eye as much if it had the 5-spoke standard wheels, and I was way confused by the wheel options on the BMW website. I'm not a fan of the mesh wheels either; had that type on my 2000 5 Series and hated cleaning the darn things.

Here's a pic with the winter wheels, which are 17s. These look a lot better on the car than in the brochure. This was December in Toronto...one of the few non-snowy days!

Keeping with the theme, can anyone I.D. these rims for me? Haven't seem them on any stateside sedans or coupes yet (been wondering for a while). . .THANKS!

Those are M Star Spoke 193 and I believe you are right they come with the M-technik package (or separately).
As for the mesh style ones like my CSL reps, they do take some time to clean, but nothing you can't do with a wet towel, you just need more time due to more spokes and corners. Well worth it when they shine :buttrock.

The five spokes will grow on you. They take about 25% the time to clean as the 328 Sports wheels. Think about an extra 30 minutes every time you wash your car.

Nice pics of the Aero kit on that Silver E90 PLAYON :)

Oh and I plan on going 17 Rial Salernos, $1k + TPMS, so I figure i could recoupe most of the cost by selling the stock 18 sports :)
