I know i might get flamed but whatever.....

So I sat in my buddies car that he auto crosses and he had a set of straps he didnt take out before we went on a drive. They were 4 point straps and bolted to his seat bolts i think but dont quote me on that....When we went on the drive I didnt slide around once on the leather. I really liked the fact I didnt slide or anything and now i want a set.

I posted on the e36 section and asked where i could get a SET of racing harnesses for a fairly cheap price to try when we go on drives and see what feels comfortable before i buy my own. One guy said mentioned that he had a set he threw away and would've of given me because they weren't eligible for track use and he didnt need them.

So I figured I would post in here. Just wondering if anyone has a old set of both passenger and driverside DOT approved harnesses they would be able to give or sell to me rather cheaply. Also if you have a set that would be easier to install. Once I step up to the track I will be buying one but I'm not sure yet if I will be tracking my car yet or another car. Also if you have a set that would be easier to install.

Thank you

And if I no one has any then can someone give me some advice on what I should look for in a set.

Remember that harness is only to be used if installed the way it is designed to be installed.
Scrupulously follow the manufacturer's instructions.

I moved this and edited the thread title. Good luck finding something. Maybe someone will have some out of date harnesses for you.

I have E36 clipins for sale if that is what you want. I have the regular ones and one of the HANS compatible ones.

These harnesses have to be replaced every 2-3 years by racers, so you might be able to find some pretty cheaply.

I have used the scroth 4 point harness many times and don't like them one bit. The tighter you pull the shoulder belts the higher the lap belt ride. I have never been able to get the lap belp where I am comfortable. Also there is a reason that seat belts get thrown out after SFI or FIA date passes. This falls into the catagory is how much is your life worth. if you want to really in the seat on the track then get a set of seat that will take a 5, 6 or 7 point harnesses and a harness bar. Many seats can be bolted to the stock sliders so just swap in the seat when you are doing tire and brakes.

Just realized that this is for 4-point. 4-points aren't legal in many racing circles, and even if they are, most people are out there with at least 5-points. The 4-point will ride up the higher you tighten it, so you can never really get 'in there'.

If you go with a harness, at least go with a 5-point. It just holds you in SO much better, and you can get it so tight that you won't move at all if you have buckets as well. 6-point is for those who care about their nads :rofl

As far as buying an overdue SFI/FIA belt, like someone said, it's up to you. However, even after they pass the date, they are still better than a 10-year old factory 3-point.

Schroth 4-points are the only real street-legal harnesses. There are better harnesses that hold you more securely, but they are not DOT legal. If your car is dual duty, I'd suggest you get the Schroth ones and call it a day.

Most race harnesses are not DOT approved. 5 or 6 points are not designed to be used with stock seats. Unless you're willing to cuts holes thru the seat pads. Bad idea. The Schroths mentioned above are the only ones I know of that are designed for use with stock seats.... and are approved.

Even out of date race harnesses have value to HPDE types. Probably not throw away items. And, BTW, FIA are good for 5 years.
