do you really need a car around the BU/harvard med school area? south of the charles river. Im going to be headed there in the fall and was wondering if bringing my car would be beneficial or not necessary? Thanks fellas:buttrock

I didn't go to school at BU but I went to NU. You don't really need a car to get around. It's more of a convinience really since the Boston public transportation is very efficient and gets you wherever you need to go (I wish that the public transit in the bay area was half as good as Boston's) My advise is don't bring your car for you first semester. You can always change your mind if you miss driving.

My old car took a small caliber pistol round in front of my place on Beacon Street... vandalism is pretty common if you're in town, so if you care about your car get covered parking. Plus you should see the morons who try to parallel park around here: it's like watching drunken jackasses driving bumper cars!

if you have a decent car that you care about, don't bring it unless you have a place to park it, preferably an indoor garage.

i had my car around there for two years. here is what happened during that time:

1.break in. radio stolen. seat cut.
2.drunk driving accident. entire driver side scraped. car was parked.
3.break in #2. radio stolen. amplifier stolen. window broken.
4.hit all the time while parked (not street parked).
5.door dings.
6.salt corroded benz wheels (after 2 years, and i cleaned them often).
7.hood and roof slightly faded.
8.buried in snow for 3 days.

there is a reason the insurance there is crazy. your car will get fucked up. i had a merc and a volvo up there across that 2 year period. get a garage space, pay insurance premiums out of state, don't drive in the snow, and i was up the road at BC where things are less crazy--- down by BU it gets worse because it's more busy. i've seen drunk kids in Boston attack a car because they thought it was "sweet". in 5 minutes, a fully restored and mint condition 1975 (?) Z was wrecked with beer bottles and cinder blocks. they don't give a shit there.

people there 'hate' better than anywhere else on the east coast. does the M3 go there? yes. do i leave it over night near any schools? no. just be ready to spend when you're done in boston to get your car back up to spec. both of my other cars needed some work after that experience.

in general, boston feels a lot safer than other cities. the other f*cked up thing was that i left the car parked on commonwealth ave for a week unlocked and nobody touched anything inside (like the $10k ergotron in the back). i don't get it.

dude, if you're planning on shipping over that car in your sig....i wouldn't. people in general won't do anything, in fact, they'll be nicer than in most other places--- but there are a few there who make it worse than other places i have been.

my sister goes to northeastern. I went to visit her for a night, came out and someone had keyed the full length of my car, and parts of it were so deep it couldn't be buffed out. And my car isn't nearly as nice as yours.

Also my sister has a 91 maxima, its beat to hell but they still fuck with it. bums break into cars and sleep in it when its cold out apparently.

Leave the car in Cali, in the garage. Its a nice treat to come home too and it wont get the wear and tear here in Boston.

Trust me the car WILL get trashed up here...if not from vandalism then from shitty roads, weather and drivers!

We have a 3 car garage... you could leave it here... of course I would need the keys in case I ever needed to "move" it... :devillook :D

But seriously, leave the car at home. My M3 is staying here when I go to college unless it's someplace in the middle of nowhere or in an area that gets very little snow.
