View Full Version : 06' Carrera 4 for 08' 335xi ?!?!
jrmod88 05-21-2008, 04:51 AM Hello All,
Thought I'd dive into the forum and say hello. I just took delivery of a new 08' 335xi (Silver on Black - loaded - sport). Decided to be more "practical" in my life right now and traded my dream car - 06' Porsche Carrera 4. This has been bitter-sweet! However, The new Bimmer is just awesome...I believe the best blend of sport/performance and practicality. Other than $$$ (being the most "practical" reason), I'd love to hear more "rationalizations" to help me justify my recent swap haha! Help me not miss the C4...looking forward to a little "therapy" from the group!

PeterC4 05-21-2008, 07:33 AM For an every day commute, the 335 is more comfortable in my view. Nothing will compare to the sheer handling capability of the C4 but look at this way, you're not racing to work.
It's done. Why try to rationalize it now?
For what it is worth, I wouldn't have done it.
RuskiBimmer 05-21-2008, 08:16 AM Hey think about it this way though, if you put a procede v2 in there it should dust your old carrera especially looking at the fact that it's an xi
For what it is and what you are looking for, the 335 is a great car to have. Unless you are doing track events, for daily driving the 335 will completely fit what you mentioned-being practical and having decent handling and power.
Any pics of your old 997?
thekurgan 05-21-2008, 09:58 AM For practicality, sure, it was a good decision, but I was extremely impressed by Porsche's high marks for reliability lately, especially the 911 and Cayman series. I'm not sure you'll find the interior of the 335 as nice as the Porsche over time though. I don't think the fit and finish and the materials used in the BMW are as durable as that used in the Porsche.
dullgirl 05-21-2008, 05:41 PM i had a c4 cab and i sort of miss it, but not much.
tough car to drive in the city.
chinesejpl 05-22-2008, 05:24 AM i just traded my '04 996 twin turbo cab for a 335i cab...it's a terrible trade, in my opinion, if you are just looking from a driving standpoint. i traded because I have a newborn that no matter how hard I tried, i couldn't get to fit in the porsche AND have my wife come along...so it simply came down to family vs. car and well...you know what I chose :)

You messed up. Just kidding. The 335i is one of the best cars ever made.. ever. I don't miss my Carrera S, even with ceramic brakes. Be glad you didn't switch from an 03 NSX. You'd be crying, like me. You can always get another Pcar. They're a dime a dozen.

You mean you didn't choose the car :nono. Hahaha kidding, good choice, it can't be that bad, you could have ended up in a minivan :embarrasm.
Nikolas1 05-22-2008, 09:35 PM Wow! I would trade my 07 335XI for an '06 C4 without hesitation. I have a 1991 C4 cab that I absolutely love. If you don't need the 4 doors, go get your car back!
cemman 05-23-2008, 10:58 AM I wish I could help. A C4S has always been the car I really wanted. The 335 is a great car and I really do like, but a C4S is a different beast entirely. I've never been able to rationalize the $$$ for a Carerra, but I will some day.

+1... but different strokes for different folks.
On the upside, SOMEONE got a good deal :) Whether you consider that to be you, is a matter of perspective.
FWIW, I think the modern (996/997) P911-C4 coupe is truly a capable year-round daily-driver.
Not as cool as, say, an Audi R8, but it more than covers my "rational" side. :D
Enjoy the 335xi - IMO quite possibly one of the great Q-ships of this decade.
For even more coolness, consider a badge delete... I had some great fun in the backroads recently chasing down a de-badged M5... car sounded great.

I beg to differ... :nono
but the P997-C4 is a darn fine motorcar.
but look at this way, you're not racing to work
Good point... also good to know that, for those days when the world will not wait - "there is no substitute" :D

umm I think you misunderstood Peter's post. In fact, he even owns one.

:D
There will always be a debate about "best" but in the overall performance for money equation a Porsche is tough to beat, given that a slightly used Porsche 997 can be purchased for a relatively decent price. Anyway, I think the 335 is a good car and on a day to day driving basis, it's more comfortable and practical.
John, you'll just have to save up for both...:lol
