View Full Version : supercharger question
tread72 05-21-2008, 01:52 AM Okay so here it is, since the m70 is basically two inline 2.5 engine put together right, so I wonder if you can mount a 2.5 supercharger inline 6 S/C kit to one side of the m70 and make it work?

TxGR8White 05-21-2008, 01:53 AM that would give you an unbalanced engine...
1chiban 05-21-2008, 03:29 AM wouldn't you try for... 2? one each side?... I'm really confused.
UZ4PLAY 05-21-2008, 03:35 AM What tex is saying is that the engine has 2 intakes..one charger would blow air in only one making it unbalanced. You need 2, one for the left bank and one for the right.
1chiban 05-21-2008, 03:46 AM ... what I was saying was why would he just buy 1, when "insert what you said here"...
Auraraptor 05-21-2008, 05:32 AM 1chiban was replying to the OP, not TX.
I agree with posts 2-5. You would need 2, making it stupid $$.
8Tech 05-21-2008, 05:34 AM Yes, you could use 2 of these kits, one for each bank. The only trouble is that the only parts you could hopefully use would be the blowers. Brackets, plumbing, fixings, mountings, pulleys and electrics would all be useless.
So just select 2 blowers suitable for a 2.5l engine or 1 for a 5.0l because you will have to make the rest yourself anyway.

1chiban 05-21-2008, 05:37 AM thanks Aura, <3.

I guess what I am trying to say is this, if you run one blower, it is more efficent than two, so you can run a single blower into a IC that has two outlets and run them to the seperate intakes. So I was looking on the internet and there is a company that make a S/C for a 2.6 inline 6, so I was wondering you could make this work, if you run two blowers, you will get less efficeny than one.
TxGR8White 05-21-2008, 12:52 PM not quite true, because you are basically taking the output of one blower and dividing it in half. As far as efficiency, it would be more efficient to use 2 blowers (since they are sized for a 2.5 liter engine), unless of course you are equating efficiency with money spent, in which case it would be more efficient (financially only).
These cars are meant to go fast, not quick. If you want quick, get a used 'Vette - you will spend that much on a TT or Double SC kit with install by the time you are done.
Unless you get the kind of power that Ryan's DinanTT Stage III 850 gets, your car is just too damn heavy to make a big difference.
:)

If you run a single blower it will need to be sized for a 5.0l, then divide the output for the two banks. I do not really understand why you would use a 2.6l blower. You would either need to run it twice as fast, which you cannot do, or run 2 to achieve the airflow requirements of the 5.0l engine.
carspainc.com 05-21-2008, 08:54 PM i think he wants to run a small blower because it's available in a package.
so it seems
but i think also what you all say is right
one charger won't have enough flow for the engine
i don't really think a supercharger is going to work on our engines.
and if it has to, then i would defenitely pick an twin screw charger
TxGR8White 05-21-2008, 09:17 PM there are 850's that have been superchargered with a pair - it can work
tread72 05-21-2008, 09:45 PM I just figured that if they had a set up for a inline 6 that it might mount on one side of the M70, if that is so, then we can look at a mounting kit and then go with a proper blower.
