View Full Version : wide body conversion ?
tread72 05-19-2008, 11:18 PM I am close to having all the funds for the standard kit, I think the price is like 4 or 500 dollars from that standard to wide body kit now. The problem is I think one has to be a realist, what is the cost of the conversion? How many shops are there that can do it?
And how much of a difference is it, meaning how much wider does it make the car?
The E31 is already a wide car, but how much wider is it? Are you able to mount 13 in wide wheels in the rear and say 10 in up front? The wide body kit that I have seen with the MK wheels, I am to assume that MK have a 11 wide wheel at the max right? So if it only a inch or so on each side, is it worth it for the cost of the conversion?
I would love to hear peoples thoughts on this?
I wonder if there are more detailed pictures of each kit?
I read on roadfly that the customer service is not that good with zeemx, either way I have made plans to go to the UK, so when I am up there I will get my kit and ship it back.
bRIZZAd 05-20-2008, 01:24 AM Decisions Decisions! Can't help you with the technical bits, but here are two more photo's I'm sure you've seen. They present better angles to show the added 'width'.
It's really too bad there aren't any high-res photos out there of a wide-body Zeemax car.
Not sure how it would affect the lines of the car from every angle, but the side profile shot of that black 8... looks damn nice IMO. :buttrock
bRIZZAd 05-20-2008, 01:31 AM Found a couple nice shots of the 'standard' Zeemax kit. I'm sure you've found these ones already, but for those that haven't, here they are!
I like the standard kit... but I think from the photo's I've seen... the wide body interests me more! :woot:
tread72 05-20-2008, 01:40 AM Well I talked to wuffer he said he knows of a person in BC that can make the flares, now I wonder what the price would be
N91TX 05-20-2008, 10:09 AM FWIW I think it makes the car look lik a Ford F350 Suoer Duty with rear duallies. I'd stick with the narrow body. Just my opinion.
PrecisionCustom 05-20-2008, 11:17 AM I like the wide body. You should be able to put some 13" tires on the Rear. My E36 widebody will fit 13".
1chiban 05-21-2008, 03:22 AM 13" Tires should not be a problem. Bro, you're getting the opportunity to go there and possibly see it (the kit) or it on a high res picture or better yet on an 8 in person. I would say go for the widebody, but that's just me and what I'm intent on. I envy you :), take lots of pics!
bRIZZAd 05-21-2008, 10:37 AM FWIW I think it makes the car look lik a Ford F350 Suoer Duty with rear duallies. I'd stick with the narrow body. Just my opinion. This is why better photos with multiple angles would be nice. I can see where you're coming from... it may not be flattering in the end! I think it may be more akin to a Porsche's lines & contours though...
tread72 05-21-2008, 12:44 PM > 1. Do you have more detailed pictures of both kits on customers cars? All pictures are on our website.
>
> 2. how much wider is the widebody kit versus the standard kit?4 inches at the rear either side, 1.5 inches at the front either side
>
> 3. How much of a discount would you give and how many people would you
> need in a group buy?
In order to become a dealer for our products you would have to make an initial order of 5 complete conversions to qualify for maximum dealer discount of 20%. Thereafter, all orders of any size would get this discount.
However, if you were not to become a dealer we could supply you at trade discount of 10% for any parts required.

Barry
1chiban 05-21-2008, 01:57 PM lol, he gave me the EXACT SAME answers for my questions.
tread72 05-21-2008, 02:07 PM So if the car get 8in wider in the rear, that means you have to run some very wide tires, like a 14 inch wide (custom wheels are going to be a lot of money) or does he mean 2inch on each side?
I think it would make more sense in getting the narrow body kit.
prit singh 05-21-2008, 06:04 PM I have a magazine with the kit on a car, whenever your here contact me
tread72 05-21-2008, 06:09 PM Prit
I have a lot of family in the UK, will be down in London, maybe we can meet up at Glassy Junction?
Can you scan the pictures from the magazine, also how far is Griston, Norfolk from London? I might just pick up the kit and ship it parcel force to the states.
Griston, Norfolk, IP25 6QD
Koizumi 05-21-2008, 06:10 PM I'd really like to see detailed large scans of the Zeemax widebody kit. As such, it remains too esoteric. Tiny pictures loom on the net--someone's gotta post big clear pics.
Cheers :D
PrecisionCustom 05-21-2008, 06:51 PM So if the car get 8in wider in the rear, that means you have to run some very wide tires, like a 14 inch wide (custom wheels are going to be a lot of money) or does he mean 2inch on each side?

4 inches each side widened in the rear for a total of 8 inches. My e36 has a Zeemax widebody on it, and its serious. Pictures won't do it justice, you have to see the stance of a true zeemax widebody to appreciate it, and fall in love with the lines, contour, and aggresive shape. A true Zeemax wide body kit when installed properly will be stronger than factory. You can pick my e36 up off the ground by the fiberglass fenders, or quarter panels. As far as a budget, widebodys are even more expensive to install correctly then the kit will cost you. Then you need about $5,000 for wheels to go with it. That's why almost nobody has them, and you can't get a high resolution pic. I don't even know anyone that has a wide body car. Do you?
tread72 05-21-2008, 07:00 PM Post some pic's of your zeemax e36, would love to see it.
Koizumi 05-21-2008, 07:02 PM Yes, please post a pic of your e36!
Here's a black E31... With an idiotic wing.

tread72 05-21-2008, 07:54 PM Thats the Reiger wide body kit with wing
8eights 05-21-2008, 07:57 PM Here are a couple more pics of the Wide body, It sold for less than 7kUS Two years ago, I believe it's in the UK.
Greg, Is that a Shark fin?--)
Koizumi 05-21-2008, 09:22 PM I meant to mention that the vid was the Reiger widebody.
Nice pics, but that red makes the car look like a carcass! A little two-tone action would've been better IMO.

Greg, Is that a Shark fin?--) Nice. Thanks for the additional pics. But I have to agree with Koizumi... I'm not so sure about that interior.
Reminds me of this MJ outfit:

:lol
PrecisionCustom 05-22-2008, 11:51 AM Post some pic's of your zeemax e36, would love to see it.
Right now I'm currently working on the body work, an old employee hit it while it was parked. Its my project car, I don't have good wheels for it yet, but i'll post some pics once I get it in primer.
8eights 05-22-2008, 06:49 PM Some other Wide stuff??????????????
prit singh 05-22-2008, 09:04 PM The kit is nice, it all depends on taste.
These cars are gorgeous original and wide enough. They look great with different styles of wheels.
We will meet up when your down just give me a call.
Shipping should not be a problem, best if you see the kit first!
PrecisionCustom 05-23-2008, 02:48 PM Some other Wide stuff??????????????
Where are these kits from? Never seen anything like it.
8eights 05-23-2008, 04:12 PM There from a old Yahoo "Bmw E31 or BMW 850i" search.
Auraraptor 05-23-2008, 04:15 PM Anyone for a group buy on the standard width front? I have pretty much made up my mind that is the front end I am going for. :cool
1chiban 05-24-2008, 03:27 PM Anyone for a group buy on the standard width front? I have pretty much made up my mind that is the front end I am going for. :cool
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! DAMMIT AURA DON'T TEMPT ME...
Koizumi 05-24-2008, 04:05 PM Ohh no, I can see it now... Pullin' on the trigger for a full Zeemax (non-wide) body kit. Please, don't tempt me into dropping more $ on my 14 year old car!
How much would a full bodykit run, including shipping? $5k?
1chiban 05-24-2008, 04:06 PM Actually the full kit and shipping, non-wide would be around 3.5k... :'(... my heart can't take this anymore.
Koizumi 05-24-2008, 04:11 PM So it's around $4.2k-4.5k including paint and install. Not cheap :(
1chiban 05-24-2008, 04:14 PM Yeah, definitely not cheap. The kit I want is the wide-body too. I mean, seriously I couldn't even imagine what the hell I would do, new wheels (I just got a brand new set), more tires... more money... more time and imagination. I, no doubt, love the CSi kit and to be perfectly honest it looks how I feel the 8 should look. That Zeemax kit feels more like a dream to me, but I don't know... I'm definitely leaning on the CSi kit and mirrors right now. Whatever I do, is going to be done in junction with a full respray.
Koizumi 05-24-2008, 04:17 PM Yeah, the Zeemax kit is like a hazy dream, since nobody seems to have it installed on their ride. I will buy the Zeemax non-wide full-body kit. Sooner than later. It still is my #1 choice despite only seeing itty bitty lo-res pics over the years.
I'm impulsive. I think this forum and RF know that about me :D
Cheers
1chiban 05-24-2008, 04:25 PM lol, wow... I'm actually the same way. No lie, the Zeemax kit has always been number 1 on my list, for the last couple years actually and Robert and I have been talking about it. I'm super excited he's going through with it because after I demand he take 900 shots from every angle and more it would be too much to resist!
prit singh 05-24-2008, 09:11 PM There is a place in the UK where they are designed and made.
tread72 05-24-2008, 10:59 PM Right now I am in the planning stages of getting a trip ready for my family to the UK, once there I will go to the zeemax place and take a lot of pictures. If I do go with the wide body kit, I know it will be sometime before I put it on.
But I will be more than happy to take pictures and if anyone locally wanted to see it they are more than welcome.
But thats a very slim chance on the wide body kit. I am also looking at the standard kit, its more logical, I already have the wheels and mounting it should not be a problem.
But as owners of the E31 we are driven by our hearts and not by logic sometimes. We own a beautiful exotic car that is very expensive to maintain but we do it because we love the E31.
Here are a couple more pics of the Wide body, It sold for less than 7kUS Two years ago, I believe it's in the UK.
Greg, Is that a Shark fin?--)
I think this car featured in Ms Dynamite's clip:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T87IFnanRPA
8eights 05-25-2008, 09:19 PM The video seems to be gone? Wasted popcorn!--)
It somehow doesn't work if you try to read it in the forum page, but it works if you click on the link.
8eights 06-10-2008, 12:41 AM Ok Got it! I think your right about it being the same car, Thanks Alx.
