Can anyone confirm this? Is it true that we no longer need cats if were OBD1?

That's the same in NH, but does it say anything about the catalytic converters having to be present?

TheRonin had to take off his track pipe and get after market cats to pass NH inspection....so you do need them bro.

Federal law mandates that cars that came with cats must always have them, in working condition.

OBDI just means there will be a visual inspection for them rather than a computer scan. There are ways around it, but if you want to follow the law, you need cats.

Yeah thats why I asked. We were talking about it today at the mini-meet and someone said that they recently passed a law stating that they were no longer required for OBDI cars.

These rumors always seem to pop up. I dont know what to believe now. last time I heard in mass jan 1 2008 obdI doesnt need cats then I heard october of 2008 they dont need them. I dont know wjhats going on.

its easy enough to make a dummy. hollow it out and slip a pipe through it. weld it back on.

Be careful the welds don't show much...

Saf-C 3220.05 Inspection of Exhaust System.

(a) A catalytic converter shall be required on all vehicles less than 20 model years old, if so equipped at the time of manufacture.

(b) A vehicle shall be rejected if:

(1) The catalytic converter is missing; or

(2) It is plainly obvious that the catalytic converter does not function.
