After installing a USA Spec brand iPod interface unit, I'm getting a high pitched whine through the audio system that tracks with engine speed.

I'm looking for someone in/near Southeastern CT with a spare CD changer that I could borrow momentatrily to determine if the iPod unit is the cause of the problem or if it is in the connector

Thanks

That is alternator whine you hear. Usually that happens when audio is not installed correctly or has a defective part. Have you gone back and unplugged all the connectors and replugged them back together?

I'll clarify the problem statement to say that the problem is intermittant. Sometimes I turn on the iPod and its there, some times not and on longer drives it has come and gone multiple times.

I've reseated the connectors in the trunk where the iPod interface plugs into the OE CD changer connector.

I also made sure that the chassis of the interface unit (under the passenger side dash) is insulated and isolated from surrounding structure.

I'm heading out now to reverify that the signal cables in the trunk are not in contact with battery cables. I routed the signal cable through the drivers side bulkhead penetrator, so if the battery cables go through the passenger side that should not be the problem.

Never mind, problem solved

It turned out to be a slightly finicky connection from the iPod cable to the interface unit. I manipulated the connector (wiggled it) until the whine stopped, then remounted the unit under the dash.

Just got back from a test drive on some of the local bumpy roads and the noise remains gone.

Thanks for the suggestions
