Based on my research it seems that I need to have my DME reprogrammed/reflashed. My car is a 2001 330Ci and it is having engine stalling/idle issue (not the cold weather/VANOS related issue though). Does anybody know how long this will take? Can I wait or do I have to leave the car for the whole day? I live close to BMW of Fairfax and have taken my car there several times and my office is not too far from VOB BMW. I am not sure where to take my car, can this only be done at the dealership? Thanks all.

Well, software flashes take less than 15 minutes ...

But that doesn't sound like your problem. It sounds like you have a vaccuum leak or a non responsive air flow meter.

According to this thread (http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=420384&highlight=engine+stall), one of the solutions is DME reprogram. I took it to BMW of Fairfax and they changed the ICV and intake boot, I also changed the fuel filter, but the problem is still there. Two solutions left are the DME reprogram and clean or change the MAF. How hard is it to change the MAF, is it an easy DIY? Thanks.

You shouldn't have to go to the dealership for a dme flash. I had my dme replaced by an independant shop. They were able to do the programming themselves. However, that was on an e36.

well changing the MAF is pretty easy but a new one is pretty expensive, if your MAF doesnt give you a CEL then i wouldnt bother trying to change it out. If your car ran fine on your DME current software then there must be something wrong such as vacumm lines etc...
