Any of you going to show? Usually there isn't that many E36's (non-M3, at least).

First time playing with the cupkit... it did wonders on the drive last Sunday, so lets see how it handles this Saturday!

My cars getting a workout. :boobies

Yeah, I figured, Steve. I imagine you probably live pretty close to Candlestick?

So since the 2002 is still our of commission, will you be taking your E30 beast?

I used to be in D-Stock novice, and now since I got me cup-kit I'll be in ST-S, novice. So the competition should be steeper, but I'm hoping my times will improve dramatically... my 80k year old shocks were SHOT, and the weight transfer was ridiculous, the car loaded itself all over the place.

Steve, you missed out on one hell of a course! It was absolutely HUGE. The average time was probably in the high-80's, and the average speed somewhere around 40mph, it was really really fast.

There were quite a few bimmers there, A couple of M Roasters, about four E36 M3's (one was a 4-door with no sunroof, that's pretty neat), an M Coupe, a BEAUTIFUL E28 Alpina (don't know if it raced, may have raced in the open class later, I left after I ran), three E46 330's, and a lone E30 M3. No one apparently from BF though.

I need racing wheels/tires BADLY though. My cup-kit did exceptionally well, the car felt like a completely different beast then it has at previous events, but my progress is deffinetely limited by crappy, all-season tires now. The starter even made fun of me "you're wearing FORTY series tires?" I'll hopefully be able to manage the funds to pic up a used set of 16's and Azenis early in the summer.

Here are a few pictures to keep you entertained:

I love superformance Lotus 7 replicas. This one has a focus engine in it, I believe... its a quick little car.

My baby.

First time I've seen the new SRT-10. This baby only had 500 miles on it. Don't know if he should have been autocrossing it... but eh, whatever!

It was a really great autocross, hope to see at least a FEW of you at future SCCA events!

Dude,

i wish i was there. i needed the points. To bad i woke up with a fucking stomack flue. I coudn't stay upright for more thena fe minutes at a time. this fucking sucked.

I am happy you feel that the car isperforming a lot better. but since you are now in street tire class you need to get some Kumho MS or Falkens.

When i first put the suspension on the '02 i was also runnnign crappy tires. the car would have no roll but would slide too easy. the suspension was out performing the rubber.

good luck. hopefuly i'll see you there next time!

Hey what do I have to do in order to join in one of these races. I am very interested! I just heard that they have autocrosses at candlestick a month ago but never went because I didn't know what I would need in order to drive there. Could you please give me the 411!

Its not that hard, it just takes awhile, since its done through the mail. First off, go to www.sfrscca.com which is the website for the Bay Area chapter of SCCA. Sign up for a membership, which can be very reasonable if you are under a certain age, I think its around 24... its only about 30 bucks.

Once the membership comes, a helmet would be a good idea, since they have few loaners at the actual events and the loaners are generally nasty. There is more info about that at the website, dictating which helmets they allow and what not.

Every event is only 25 bucks, which makes this one of the most reasonable racing events you can get involved in.

The autocross events are "solo II" events, there is an annex on the main page telling when the next events are.

The next autocross is at Marina, so around Monterey. I probably won't be able to make it out.

Good luck getting involved! Its a blast.

These events are run by San Francisco Region of SCCA. There was one at Candlestick last saturday. This coming Sunday there will be one at Marina Airport. SFR SCCA runs about 25 events per year. You have to be a member to run and you cannot become a memeber on the day of the event. You will need to sign up in advance. Membership is $75 or $25 if you are under 26. Each even will cost you $25. To sin up you will either need to fill out an aplication which you can find online or call either national or regional office and ask then to fax you a proof of memebership after you pay them. You will not be able to run without one.

We get three runs most of the time per event with occasional fun runs. If the turn out is low, you can get 4 runs. Low turn out for us is less then 200 people. We've had more then 300 at 50% of the events this year.

You can find out more info at http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2/

Check the classification page to see where you car will fit. Note that some minor changes can bump you into some very tough classes.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Besides the SFR SCCA, there are a number of other clubs in the Bay Area that hold autocrosses. The Golden Gate Chapter of the BMW CCA is restarting their autox program - the first event is on 6/15 at Marina. Check out their web site (www.ggc-bmw-cca.org) for details and info on how to join. NASA/X is holding their first autocross of the season on 6/8 down at Marina. Their web site is www.geocities.com/nasa_autox/ . American Autocross has a great series of events in Atwater (in the central valley). Great site, great events. Info on their events can be found at www.americanauto-x.com .

Right now, it looks like the main group that uses sites in the Bay Area itself is SFR SCCA - everyone else is holding their events outside of the Bay Area, like at Marina or Atwater. If you are too lazy to drive outside of the area, you'll have to join the SCCA - all of the SFR events are members-only. You will not be able to join onsite, and you will need proof of membership to enter.

Thanks a lot guys, I just joined the bmwcca so does that mean that I can only drop in on the bmwcca events or are there others?

steve k.

bmwcca will let you join only BMWCCA events.

SCCA will require their membership. I don't think you need to be a member of any organization to participate in NASA events.

Steve! Man we missed you bud, sorry you were sick. If you saw me run and counted the cones, you would have vomited anyway! I had a VERY BAD DAY at the AutoX.

I'll be at Marina, hopefully with a clearer head than I had last weekend. Hope to see you there.

Steven, let's make sure we meet! My buddy Gordon is the one with the 4dr, non-sunroof car. It was quite a find!

Hey, Erik, I think we did meet... were you the one I commented on your car when you drove in? I was running waiver table (boring job) during run group 2, and I talked to a 95 M3 owner... might have been you?
