View Full Version : Looking at e36 m3/4..What should I look for
burtonsouth3 05-15-2008, 10:25 AM Price of gas has me rethinking my daily driver. I am looking for '97 m3/4. I found this one online last night. Right color combo I am looking for.

I know the price is high, but what should I be looking for with regards to maintenance issues.
For of those of you who own one, what would you ask this guy about maint.
I already was going to ask the following questions, but what am I missing?
Where has the car been serviced?
What was you most recent service?
When was last inspection I & II?
Has water pump & thermostat been replaced?
Tread life on tires?
Condition of seats?
BTW - his name is Demetres Velendzas. Not sure if he is on here of if anyone knows this car.
JaredM3 05-15-2008, 11:02 AM If that guy is going to ask 16500 for the car, it should not have dirty wheels...that thing should be polished and waxed up for that price, lol
ESMcBlurM3 05-15-2008, 12:02 PM check the edge motorworks checklist in the e36 m3 homepage

Thank you sir...don't know why I didn't already look there. I am a dumbass.
burtonsouth3 05-15-2008, 02:54 PM What would a reasonable price be for said car mentioned above?
Super Clean NADA is $13,650
m3fuz 05-15-2008, 03:47 PM RTABs, RSMs are 2 that come to my mind.
Or you can buy mine for the same amount - EB/Dove/5SP, light mods, every record since Day 1.

Dove leather is not conducive to 3 year old. :(

I know - we've had this conversation. Seriously though - check out the RSMs/RTABs, VANOS tick/issues.
burtonsouth3 05-15-2008, 08:27 PM Will do. Guy says he has turned down 2 offers at 15K. He should have taken them.

Interesting, though I'm not willing to budge on my price either. It's paid off, title's in hand, and I really love opening her up on the weekends.
Oh, and it's not technically for sale.
Are you planning on getting a PPI done?
burtonsouth3 05-15-2008, 08:58 PM PPI is a given. You also have some mods & a car from FL. If you look at the pics in the link, the car is filthy. He does not have all of the records. Has not changed out water pump or thermostat either. Tires have less than 2k left on them. Needs inspection II service. Car needs about $2500 in work on it within the next 3-6 months. Offered 11K.
tb0ne 05-15-2008, 10:41 PM Car's not on autotrader anymore...weird

Yeah - sounds low, but fair given these findings. I've never understood putting a car up for sale, but not cleaning it up first. At least try to hide the imperfections...

I know. that was one of the reasons for my low ball offer. He also kept using the words "i think" when talking about the service. Either you know what/if service has been done or you don't.
Googled him & he is an MD in CT who is moving back to Greece & is possibly taking it with him.

Starting to sound shady. Any chance of getting someone you know to physically inspect the car?

Was not responsive to offer. He is a legit doctor, my wife looked him up as well (she is also a doctor). Appears he is from Greece & educated here.
He is only about an hour away from me & I would have gone & looked at tomorrow if we could get close to an agreeable number.
