View Full Version : Need a place to swap shock/springs
Nicklle36 05-13-2008, 12:56 PM Hello!
I'm from Montreal/Canada. I've decided that making a little 2 or 3 days trip to NE would be an excellent way to get parts at Turner and save some shipping costs. So in about a month or so, I'm planning to go to Amesburry, MA getting parts and then spend a day in Boston.
I'm gonna buy a springs/shocks package, some reinforcements and some bushings, and now I thought: what if I could mount the new shocks/springs while in the states!
So my question is: is there any DIYer here located near Boston or near TMS who would like to help me with a couple beers?

Nicklle36 05-13-2008, 01:29 PM Alright for the beers! Actually if I can meet some fellow BMW lovers while in NE that'd be awesome.

FredK 05-13-2008, 02:17 PM Only if we can crash your place in Montreal!
dophineh 05-13-2008, 03:01 PM I want to put in some lowering springs in my fronts.
But I lack the experience and the place to do it.
I can definetly bring beers though.
Anyone?
NHskibm 05-13-2008, 03:05 PM It is possible in a driveway with jack stands. But you need a spring tensioner (can rent at Autozone), maybe a vise if you have rust issues, and some funky tools if your ball joint is into the strut tower housing and is a pain to get out (don't know what the front of a 7 looks like).

I hear that...6-8th is coming up rapidly. Debating on going.
andrewcconti 05-14-2008, 04:19 PM in NH. www.kensingtonautoworks.com (http://www.kensingtonautoworks.com) ask for Owen. Depending on how busy he is he might be able to work around your schedule if you call ahead.
m3fuz 05-14-2008, 05:25 PM I remember doing the suspension both times on my M3s - the rears are a bitch without the right tools.
JaredM3 05-14-2008, 05:58 PM ^^^ E36?? Unbolt shocks and the springs drop right out.
Nicklle36 06-13-2008, 06:48 PM Ok there I have the dates.
I'll be in Maine from 6th to 11th of July. I should be getting the parts on 7th probably and the struts and shocks/rsm will be pre-assembled. I'm buying bushings too, for the rear suspension but I'll install them when back here.
So basically, all that is needed is to bolt out the old shocks and springs and bolt in the new ones.
tsylatac 06-14-2008, 03:51 AM Turner has a full garage and if you told them your plans, they might try to accommodate you accordingly.
Nicklle36 06-14-2008, 10:10 AM Yes I'm perfectly aware of that, but I'm a DIY. This to me is not an option. It's either I'm swapping them with another DIY person and a couple beers while I'm in New England for vacation or I'm swapping them myself when I'm back here.
