Can it be done on the new M3? I hate it. Hate it, hate it, hate it.

Yeah, just wait 2 seconds then launch, and it is as if disabled. Otherwise NO.

Why do you hate it? It's never been a problem for me.

I've been driving manuals my whole life and I am just having a tough time getting used to the car not rolling back. I've never done the emergency brake trick, so I've never had a problem with hills. It just seems like a useless feature.

:dunno

Yeah me too, learned how to drive on a manual and used to live in a hilly-mountainous and usually congested area so have no trouble modulating the clutch from a standstill even on the steepest incline in bumper to bumper traffic, not to mention parallel parking on an incline with barely enough space to fit the car. However, I got used to this feature and it doesn`t bother me. I even have a new game I play, I see if I can time it so that I disengage the clutch just instantaneously after the feature lets the brakes go so as to catch it just in time before rolling. You can always find a silver lining ;).

I've been driving a stick for 43 years and can handle a clutch just fine, but I still kind of like the feature.

It will not engage if you are in neutral and lift off the brake, then put it in gear, but you will be rolling back by then.

Silly posts really.

You're entitled to hate anything you want but it makes no sense to not like a feature as unintrusive as the hill assist. It has no effect on your driving, your car or its performance. It does what it does and has no impact on your hill starts.

Coming onto a forum and immediately calling other people's posts silly is a great way to break the ice. Nice.

No I did because it was inappropriate and off topic. You'd better watch your attitude or face a TO.

I was too slow to delete it. Maybe next time.

If you can't feel this feature in even daily driving where there's a slight grade, you're WAY out of touch with your car.

You can feel it, but if you practice to take your foot off the brakes 2 seconds before you want to move/launch your car, it will be as if not there. I agree for a few of us who have been properly doing this the "old fashioned way" it is a redundant feature, but you can work around it as I said or just live with it. Hopefully we won't forget the old way of doing it, which I doubt. At least we still get to do the driving and not forced to depend on auto-pilot like in the movie "iRobot".

My 06 M Coupe has hill assist and I don't see it as a problem or annoyance. I live in a somewhat hilly area too. At first it was a little odd but after a short period I forgot it was even there and now it's a nice feature. When I drove a Miata about a month after getting the M I stalled it on a hill and had to laugh.

My point is this...hill assist can be your friend if you let it. :)

It takes some guts to come in here and tell the mods how to do their jobs. You don`t have to deal with people like you on a day to day basis, so if I were you, I`d be quiet before I get myself banned.
