View Full Version : YAY! I maybe have a new hobby
LBMotoring 05-13-2008, 01:31 AM Ive been talking to a company neighbor,
They do Nascar Road Race National series,
(which I dont really care for)
butttttttttttttttttt
they do the Rolex Grand-AM Series in their Porsche,
SOoo badass,
1 Million Dollar Funding per year for the team.
anyways, I talked to the pit-cheif, and I might be a pit hand soon,
I will be on the road with them (all expenses paid, airfare, hotel, restaurants, etc)
I cant wait, I was trying to go with them this weekend to Laguna Seca, but they wont be able to make Hotel and Flight accommodations for me on such a short notice,
Anyways, just thought I'd let my 39er's know what I did on lunch LOL.
This is this seasons porsche

UPDATE!
So I worked in the garage today for just a second to get to know the crew cheif and the tire/transport guy.
Also worked a tiny bit on the front suspension of the Nascar Nationwide car, (road coarse) They crashed the last one previous week.
I will be going to Montreal Canada at the end of Next Month to help race the Rolex Grandam with the Porsche, and also the Nascar Nationwide back to back.

XCELMotorsports 05-13-2008, 03:01 AM ....i hate you.
May i ask how or what classes ect you took to get to that job?
LBMotoring 05-13-2008, 03:14 AM You probably dont want to hear it,
but.....
No classes, anything.
Poked my head into I guess one of their garages, they are located just down the way from my work, I always drive slowly and look @ the cool race cars inside when they have the roll up door open.
So basically today I walked in and talked to them, and walked out with a card, and they are pretty sure they can take on a extra pit assistant.
XCELMotorsports 05-13-2008, 03:34 AM I hate you even more now.

http://www.grand-am.com/rolex/schedule/
I cant wait,
I should be at most of the ones June/July
I can totally do those, I still have school and work to go to lol, I cant do 24 hr races, it takes about 4 days or so. 2days preprep, 1 day race, 1 day packup
irelandoffline 05-13-2008, 12:22 PM So, eh, where are the pics of the pit girls :)
PutterMcGavin 05-13-2008, 01:41 PM That is awesome!
I saw these cars run a couple weekends ago at VIR and had a great time during the race! Pretty amazing cars and IMO one of the best race venues out there for fan interaction. Good luck!
Robby, you now have the responsibility to organize a meet at one of the events... it's just what's required!
VIP son, nothing less
websworld 05-13-2008, 04:37 PM w/o classes maybe you'll just end up bringing coffee to the rest of the crew, but still got yourself a cool place to hang out in spare time ;)
Reminds me - a couple years ago I was the spare chief mechanic for a local Group N rally team - much lower budget stuff though, but FIA compliant and competing in most of the major national events. I declined to become their official chief mechanic however - cost too many weekends.
Cool thing was, same service area pass could also be used to check out the high dollar Group A teams. Pit girls were rare though - Pirelli occasionally brought a few but that was about it :D
flipppalot 05-13-2008, 08:33 PM I guess the modeling hobby is on hold?:D
e39dream 05-13-2008, 09:07 PM run with it Robby! I'm jealous.

gumbi4u 05-13-2008, 11:34 PM I want a souvenir.......
LBMotoring 05-13-2008, 11:52 PM ^ I will have to get a piece of a smashed gt car, and I'll have to send you some garage wall art.
I doubt I would be anything big,
I would be pit set up, and if any huge thing came up the most I would be doing is handing tires over the wall, or at best holding Pit In Signal Sign for the Drivers sight.
I mostly was interested for the fun of it, I doubt I would really get anywhere crazy, but you never know. Everything you do is an investment in life, sometime is pays good dividends, sometimes none.
LBMotoring 06-26-2008, 07:26 PM Updated 1st Post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NNY528I 06-26-2008, 09:08 PM Spend every minute you can in the shop learning everything that they are willing to teach you. At the same time you will be earning their trust and respect and that will take you a lot further than you might think. You've accomplished one of the hardest feats in motorsports and that is getting your foot in the door. If you stick with it before long they might start to pay you for some of your time, or ask you to cover for someone(thats why the learn anything they will teach you) next thing you know the tire guy moves to another team and now you are the tire guy, then the fuel guy and then the crew chief. Thats how a lot of the guys that do this for a living got their start. Congratulations on the chance of a lifetime, I just wish it was me that was in your shoes.
gumbi4u 06-26-2008, 09:11 PM I want a souvenir.......
