I am replacing the starter in my 82 E21, the new starter is about 1/4" longer than the original, as such the bracket that attaches the starter to the block will not fit. Am I going to be in trouble if I leave that out?

View Full Version : URGENT question please Landscape 05-10-2008, 06:03 PM I am replacing the starter in my 82 E21, the new starter is about 1/4" longer than the original, as such the bracket that attaches the starter to the block will not fit. I had the same problem with my new starter. Landscape 05-10-2008, 06:34 PM Thanks, that is what I was thinking since I've never had a car with more than the two main bolts. Now if I could shrink my hands to get the thing in there a little easier.:mad :alright Landscape waferman 05-10-2008, 07:36 PM It is actually easier to R&R on the 80-83 with out that little mounting bracket. I'm more conserned with why your starter is longer- you may have the wrong application? vern320i 05-10-2008, 09:08 PM It is actually easier to R&R on the 80-83 with out that little mounting bracket. I'm more conserned with why your starter is longer- you may have the wrong application? Eh, probably not if the difference is only 1/4". How long is a starter, roughly? 8"? So we're talking about a margin of error of 1/32 - 3%, if my drunk math is correct. What's 3% between friends? :cool adamalexander 05-10-2008, 09:11 PM 1.5% each Landscape 05-10-2008, 11:11 PM It is actually easier to R&R on the 80-83 with out that little mounting bracket. I'm more conserned with why your starter is longer- you may have the wrong application? I don't think so, the replacement is identical to the original except for the length. |
