View Full Version : Anyone heading to Carlisle next weekend?
BigTex 05-10-2008, 11:27 AM I think the big import/kit event at Carlisle is next weekend, and I was thinking of heading up. I haven't been to this one in about 10 years though--does anyone know if it's still interesting, or has it been over-run by slammed Civics with 17" tips?
Last time I was there, I saw some really neat cars. Some guy was selling a replica of a D-Type Jag he'd built (riveted skin and all) with the I-6 from an XJS, a few assembled GT40s, some Westfield/Catherams, old Porsches, etc.
Take care,
Noah
Death Trap 05-10-2008, 02:34 PM We go every year. No Civics just nice european and classic imports aswell as the kitcar stuff. Very much worth the trip imho
connorb850 05-10-2008, 08:44 PM I make the 300 mile drive up there every year. Its always well worth it.

Jackcat559 05-11-2008, 06:46 AM Is it all weekend? Preakness is on Saturday.
RRSperry 05-11-2008, 07:41 AM Preakness? You can get drunk anytime.... A nice Kelmark with a 911 engine you don't see every day. I'll be going up on Friday, weather permitting.
Jackcat559 05-11-2008, 07:58 AM Never been, and I got tickets for the stands on X-mas.
So, is Carlisle event also on Sunday?
MarylandDakarM3 05-11-2008, 08:56 AM where is carlisle?
m20b27es 05-11-2008, 02:22 PM It's near harrisburg, pa.
This year the theme is "British Invasion", so brit cars of all sorts will be out in full force.
I'll be there in my Mini.
Accord Mike 05-11-2008, 03:28 PM it takes place friday, saturday, and sunday.
friday is pretty beat, because most people are at work, but there are usually some people there in the evening.
saturday is the busiest day.
sunday is a slow day and its pretty cleared out by 3 or 4 pm.
ddavidv 05-12-2008, 09:58 AM Unless mine breaks this week, I should have 2 Spec E30 race cars on display with the BMWs.
Ironically, I'm leaving my Mini home this year.
I'll be heading up, hopefully will get there in time for the autox but who knows.

trickiekid 05-19-2008, 11:50 AM I didn't see the e30 race cars. Where were they, with the other Bimmers? I thought there was a poor turn out for the bimmers, but I have never seen so many Saabs or Volvo's in one place. They have one hell of a following.
beshannon 05-19-2008, 11:55 AM Any links or info on this event?
Doh, I found it, it was this past weekend

etasport87 05-19-2008, 12:42 PM Yea, it was an okay turnout for bmws, most people started leaving when it looked like rain, but 30 minutes later the sun came back out.
Hitchhikker 05-19-2008, 01:02 PM Is it really worth the trip?
Was a pretty cool weekend. Saw your cars there etasport and david. My buddy and I came out for the autox but didn't realize we had to pay the $25 show fee in addition. I would have done it if the car didn't have 2 hard weeks of brake dust on them :lol

PathosRx 05-19-2008, 11:05 PM Is there a website for this event? Is it at the Farm Show complex?
Death Trap 05-20-2008, 10:51 AM I was up there for sat. Not as good a turn-out compared to last year maybe cause of the rain. But it was still fun I brought my E34 up but didnt show it or anything. I think next year ill bring my TVR.
ublemaschine 05-20-2008, 01:54 PM I was up there last weekend. Holy saab! I was gonna bring my car but it has no intake manifold at the moment. Etasport78, remember your car. My friend is sold on doing an m50/52 swap into an e30 now.
ddavidv 05-20-2008, 05:49 PM You snapped our cars before we moved them.
Edit: hey, that's me standing between the two race cars.
We wound up parked at the car show entrance, some race car display they wanted us to be a part of for Grassroots Motorsports or something. We just left 'em there the rest of the day. To be honest, we didn't really fit in with the Zymol & diaper crowd that seems to make up the bulk of the BMW people. :rolleyes
I spent some time with my old pals at the Audi tent. They know how to party. :stickoutt
ublemaschine 05-20-2008, 09:49 PM I love the paintjob on that one SpecE30. I suspect I may see those 2 cars in action at a lancaster parking lot soon?
ddavidv 05-21-2008, 05:17 PM Yes, both should be there at this point.
Cool - if I can get off work, I'll be there on June 1st.
