Ok :help
Time to do the first oil change. I made the mistake of installing the wrong plugs the first time(bosch platinum) so I am asking about the oil. 250K on the factory motor. still running petrolium. Plugs are fouling with carbon rather quickly say every 2000kms. May be valve bypass as there is oil on some of the threads. no blue or black in the tail though. any ideas
Thanks

Castrol GTX 20-50, ol filter: check what your local auto shop has or buy it from the dealer. I use Mann filters from Bav Auto but have also bought whatever is available local. I have been running Bosch plat plugs in my car for 4k miles without problems FWIW.

gabbmwdrvr,
Do you also recomend to add additives and what kind?
Thanks,

20w50 (especially in the warmer summer months); and use Mann, Mahle, or Bosch filters. Don't use Fram (they don't have a pressure relief valve, and they also have a smaller filter element).
Plugs that foul quickly (and with no signs of excess oil consumption/burning) could indicate a weak ignition system: cap, rotor, plug wires, and/or coil.

Question:
At first I was running Castrol GTX High Mileage 20w50 in the green bottle. Then as of late, I just got the regular Castrol GTX 20w50 in the white bottle.
Both are 20w50, both being fairly thick, but the High Mileage is much thicker. Almost like maple syrup.
If they are both 20w50, then why is one thicker? Which is better? I kind of want to switch back to the high mileage because I feel like my car smoked less with it and ran a bit smoother. I burn oil when letting off the gas at high RPMs (valve guide problem?)

Mann, or Bosch oil filters, Bosch-copper's or NGK's No platinum style plugs, any good 20w-50w oil Castrol, although these old m10's love Mobil 1 syth 15w-50w if you have good valve guide's and no oil-leaks and want to spend the extra bucks, peace out vibrant.
