Ah-ight homies -

Any of you fellas ever run a reground cam from Ireland Engineering?

I bought a bunch of parts from a guy, head supposedly had a 292 cam; I had wondered where the cam came from, clearly a regrind since the base circle was gone.

Since the dude dealt with Ireland (it was on some of the boxed parts), and I've now seen that they regrind cams, my best guess is that's where the cam came from, thus my question.

Anybody here recommend NOT running a reground?

Let me know (or maybe I'll be letting y'all know....)

Thanks.

Cool. From what I can gather, your car has been assembled for quite a while.

If I may, some follow up questions:

How often do you drive it, who's it from/reground by?

Did you use larger eccentrics? Or valve lash caps?

Thanks man.

Reground cams in these engines seem to have no problems. I have an Engin reground cam and have nearly 100,000mi on it and it shows little wear. The key is to run the valve springs recommended by the grinder. "Double valve springs" are not all created equal and you want the least pressure you need to control the valve train-any more pressure than that just wastes HP and increases wear.

Cam grinders usually stamp their name and duration or P/N on the cam nose-hopefully yours is marked so you know exactly what it is. If it's not marked I would recommend getting a degree wheel and charting it out so you know exactly what you have for duration and lift as well as how severe the ramps are.

Ken,

Best I can figure is it's an Ireland Eng. reground (I'll check the cam nose...), and on their website they recommend either "valve caps" or larger eccentrics for proper valve clearance; I would guess the better way to go would be eccentrics, but between you and "boosted" I think my reticence about using a regrind has gone away.

Thanks all.

Bob.

I received my reground from IE today and it looks about as factory as you can get. It is a 272
